And i don't think much people will do :) Douglas 08-31-2005, 09:09 PM probably not but its worth a try thezeppzone 08-31-2005, 09:19 PM People still have to buy gas, fill their tanks up. That is simply one day, even if it somehow worked and they suffered tomorrow, what are they going to care? They still have the strongest business in the world, and they know that when the next day comes, they will just bring in more money than the previous day. Edit: Lefty just posted below me same at the time. I have gotten some emails about it from friends who have forwarded it to like 100 people each, and I saw a small thing on the news, but that means nothing. What am I going to see going to the school tomorrow morning during rush hour? Someone filling their tank at the gas station on the corner... lefty 08-31-2005, 09:19 PM It's a good idea, but it's too late now to plan something of this magnitude for tomorrow. Douglas 08-31-2005, 09:21 PM no i didnt plan it someone else did a couple weeks ago and sent mass emails i thought i would just say it here :) Lissa 08-31-2005, 09:42 PM Well, good thing I filled it up yesterday, I wasn't going to fill my car up tomorrow anyway  Karen_ 08-31-2005, 10:36 PM I got an email last year saying not to buy gas on a certain day, and that didn't seem to make any impact on prices :P Monkey Bizzle 08-31-2005, 11:30 PM While we're talking about gas... it was 3.10 today!!! In my area, it is normally 2.50 or so... Today it was $3.10 for the CHEAP stuff! People keep saying that stores don't make a profit off of gas but if that's the case, why is, for example, Exxon $2.75, and then a mile down the road, in a busier spot, another Exxon is $2.90? Seems to me like the busier Exxon is charging more so they WILL make a profit. Douglas 09-01-2005, 01:37 AM yeah here in gallons i think its $4+ per gallon ($1.19/Litre here in other ns up to $1.30s/Litre) Karen_ 09-01-2005, 02:03 AM While we're talking about gas... it was 3.10 today!!! [/size] Yeah one gallon is about 4 litres, so we're paying a bit more than you guys are *dies* I think it will go down in a few days though, or so I've heard. I hope so.. I'm running on empty right now and I have a lot of places to go in the next few days :( Cherchezlafemme 09-01-2005, 02:09 AM Uhm actually I sympathize with these gas companies. They buy less gas because of the higher prices to the barrel. Therefore they don't make as much money. So I'm going to buy gas whenever I need it, they cannot help it if the price goes up. If I sold gas and suddenly it went up I'd change the prices to be higher to afford more gas. You see you get ripped off in the end for lower prices, as soon as the gas in that station runs out that's it. They can't afford a lower price. :( lefty 09-01-2005, 02:19 AM I complain, but then I take a 3-hour drive to see my boyfriend (as I plan on doing this weekend). I mean, gas prices usually go up during the holidays (Labor Day weekend, hello?) because they know people travel. I really don't expect prices to drop again until after winter, if they do. tokyo bleu 09-01-2005, 02:40 AM I hate it when people purpose stupid ideas like this. That chain message has been going around for ages. Puh-lease. Paco 09-01-2005, 05:21 PM Well my mum and step dad havr both brought petrol today, Blakelyn 09-01-2005, 06:07 PM Gas is ridiculous. But, seems to me, if the gas companies are going to lose 4 billion dollars from no one buying gas today, that would cause the price to go up even more. I'm not an economics guru, but it just seems like the logical progression of things. aviegrace 09-02-2005, 01:20 AM firstly, there is a reason why it's so high, they didn't decide to mark up the price for fun. secondly, even if the whole of united states decide to protest, the companies would simply sell gas to Singapore. so if you want them to lower their price, they CAN'T and they WON'T. and thirdly, they know you are not going to win. at the end of the day you would still have to buy gas sooooo seriously, anyone thinks this protest thing's gonna work? Dude128 09-02-2005, 04:44 AM not buying gas on a particular day won't do anything, because people will buy it some other time. in order to make a change, people have to consistently use less gas- things could be done to help the prices, but they won't be if the demand stays the same regardless of the price. Owlie42 09-02-2005, 05:00 AM dont buy gas sept 1st, its a protest against gas companies to stop raising prices, it will cost a gas/oil company 4 billion dollars if no one buys gas tomorrow heheheh Um, hint. It's called supply and demand. The hurricane knocked out about 92% of the production capacity in the Gulf of Mexico. They have to charge more per gallon of gas because the price of oil was (on Monday) about $68 a barrel. And no one's stopped buying gas. These "protests" are just a waste of time. Here, regular gas at BP was $2.99/gallon. (The silver and whatever was about $3.10. I have no right to complain, because I don't drive (though that may change after Saturday), and probably won't be paying for my own gas. What I'd like to see is what this does to heating oil and natural gas prices this winter. |
