I was wondering - do you guys get rewards from your parents (or did you, if you are older now) if you did well in something such as exams or music or something?

Thanks,
Chris

not being yelled at?? does that count?

The only time i got something was when I passed my "bac" in high school, i got a camera.

Regular exams..i just knew I better do well (eventhough i was a bad student until the last 2 years of school...)

Nope, never. My parents told me that they would give me something for graduating highschool since they gave my brother some money when he graduated his military training, but then they said they never said that. I just let it go because it wasn't worth the fight :P I think my dad is a bit upset because I'm going to university instead of joining the military.

Presents? Money? I'm lucky if I get a "good job" or "congratulations".

I used to get paid for umm, mowing the lawn, now I have no income until I find a job. In school get mostly A's maybe 1 or 2 B's and I got nothing except for, I think you can do better. What is that about, I get a 3.8 GPA and I can supposedly do better, pathetic. The last few weeks I have gotten about $50 from my dad between putting new flooring in the living room, mowing the lawn, doing laundry, doing the dishes, and cleaning the basement, all because it is summer so I have been doing all of the housework while my parents are at work, so I am thankful for that, which has all gone in the bank... :)

I was expected to do well, so no rewards for Angela :P

I got gifts for major occasions, like graduation, but there was no "$20 for every A" or whatever parents bribe their children with now.

I got rewarded at the end of every year for doing well in school. It was either money or something that I wanted. It was always unexpected. My mom always surprised me with something, and I'd be like "What's this for?" and she'd say "Just because we're proud of you." I have awesome parents.

I got a watch when I passed my GCSE's...and my mum gave me a little (and I mean little, we are talking a bag of sweets or a nail varnish) every week for a few weeks when I first quit smoking

Nope, they already expect me to do well, so it's not a surprise or anything. They just buy me whatever I want (gee, am I ready for the real world or what? =P).

My grandparents gave me a car when I graduated from high school with honors. Before that, I would get an allowance for doing chores. Other times, when I wanted to go on an over night trip with a friend, a concert, or something I would have to do a big chore or baby sit my brother.

No, my parents were not into giving rewards for anothing. I was expected to do well, so I didn't need to be rewarded. My mom did sometimes buy my sisters and I things, because we did. Nothing official, though. <-- baaaaad grammar, but I am lazy.

When I get my report at the end of the year, I sometimes get a money from my mum and step dad. But once my current grades were all c's (Which is good for me) so my mum gave me £15 and a Xbox game. My dad got me new clothes, my nan got me a memerory card for my Xbox.

I'm expected to do well too...so i never get anything....and when i do well, and my mom thinks i can do better I don't get good work instead i get why didn't you do better..by this point i usually bring up how all my friends would get like all these presents if they get a C meanwhile I'm getting hassled because i got an A...but she still thinks i should do better

^ oh yeah. I used to tell my parents I got a 98 on a test and dad would say, "what happened to the other 2 points?" Mom would usually shoot him a dirty look :P
Then again, I could never do right on a report card, either. I could get 4 As and 1 B- and I'd get hassled for the B-. What the heck.

i never get anything. they do put my report cards on the fridge though!

for 8th grade graduation all my friends got cell phones whereas my parents were like "but we bought your graduation dress!" :P but it's okay, i know we don't have the money to spend on presents for every little accomplishment. so, no hard feeligs :D

I was such a slacker in high school that when I went to college (the first time) I got an A on my criminology paper and my dad hung it on the fridge... I didn't even live with him LOL!

I used to get $15/A, but I don't see a whole lot of that anymore, especially since I'm going to be getting a car this year (hopefully.) I get money from my grandmother, about 10-20 a month, for no apparent reason.

My parents did take me out for dinner for getting 5s on AP exams, though. Though the fees I had to pay to take the exam probably cost more than the dinner.

My parents would say things like that too, but both of them would be like, "Why didn't you get a 100%?"

Sounds like my house sometimes. :D

I think my parents are adherents of positive reinforcement. They expect me to do well, but just to make sure...(add that to the fact that I am terminally short of cash...)

My mum has said that if I redo my english course work and get a minunim<Sp?> of a C. She would buy me the Southampton FC shirt, but I really cant be bothered to do it, so I will buy the shirt with my own money.

We were supposed to do well (well, as well as we could, I have a brother. Does that speak for itself  ) in our stuff, maybe a small reward like an icecream or something but not always. and especially since we were a a bit tight on money for a while, we knew we couldn't get so many things, eat out, be careful what we spent and that sort of thing. But finally my dad's business is taking off so we do get to breathe a little more now :)

When I was in 4th grade, in the last quarter of the year, I got my first B+ ever (before then I had gotten all A's) and it was a 93.4. My teacher WOULD NOT round it up to a 94 so I could have an A! (Grading was funny in Florida then). I cried so much when I got to the car, that my mom had to buy me something out of an American Girl catalog to make me feel better :lolo:

grades are like that where i live in Va too... 94 and up is an A. I don't remember what the rest of them are.

I like college grading better... 90 and up is an A LOL!

I like the grading in Ontario even better, 80+ is in the A range :P

I get to go to any college I want without worrying about a scholarship or loans. Though I do act quite ungrateful, now that I consider it it's quite a reward in itself. I work hard to get in the college and then I don't have to worry for finances. :)

No fair :P

High school through college, 90+ was always an A. Although in HS we had A+ and that just didn't exist in college :P

it's the other way around for me. In HS, it was just A and A = 4.0. If you took an honors class, then the grade point was plus .5. So, an A in an honors class was 4.5.

in college, we have plus grades except for A and the plus grades are worth #.5

yeah here 90+ counts as 4.0, even in honors classes. in AP classes, 90+ is 5.0.

@ UCLA an A- counts as less than a 4.0! [don't know the exact numbers]. and i think an A+ might be more.. but i'm not sure.

my school's scale for determining QPA...

A+ 4.00
A 4.00
A- 3.75
B+ 3.25
B 3.00
B- 2.75
C+ 2.25
C 2.00
C- 1.75
D+ 1.25
D 1.00
D- 0.75
F 0.00

why there's a half point jump between a - and a + nobody knows... :P

what numerical grade means what though is pretty much up to the professor- but I think most use something like this (this is for my statics class- and as you can see not every professor gives an A+ grade):

92-100 A
90-91 A-
88-89 B+
82-87 B
80-81 B-
78-79 C+
72-77 C
70-71 C-
65-69 D
0-64 F

Depending on the teacher, in my school, it's 89.5, though usually (if the teachers round up) it's an 89.9. But we only get half a point for weighted classes. (Which are the accelerated and AP classes.)

^oh yeah, i left that part out. most teachers count an 89.7+ as an A. except in physics first term [last year], my teacher was sooo nice and i guess she saw that i tried really hard but ended up with an 89.0.. but she still have me an A!! i loved that teacher :P

That's cool. Here, if you're really, really close (like at an 89.4) you can try to talk to the teacher to see if you can get some extra credit.

Last year, I had an 89.7 in enviro. science last quarter. The teacher wasn't one to round up, but since I had had an A in the class all year (and if I didn't get one that quarter, I'd have to do the final exam project), he told me that he'd look at the last bit of graded work we had to do before the exam and that that would probably bring it up to an A. If it didn't, he'd count it as one anyway. (Actually, I think he just didn't want to grade another exam)
