View Full Version : How was your first day of school?
Sphere 08-29-2005, 06:09 PM Traveling was a nightware today.. the school itself was ok.
I left home to take the bus at 07.48. Took the train of 8.15. As i arrived there i was walking to the helpdesk. The helpdesk was talking to someone in front of me that appearantly is doing the same occupation (Technical computer science, roughly translated). And she said that there was made a mistake on the website and that it didn't started at 9.00 am but at 12.15 pm. Well deeply disappointed i didn't knew what to do, i had 3.5 hours free. I could go to the city (in my own, boring) or go to home and eat some. I decided for the second one so i took the train home. In the train a employee checked the tickets. I have a "free public transport" card so i showed it to him. He asked me where i was going to and took my card and said he'll be right back. So he came back and said my card wasn't legal. it starts at september and it was still august. I wanted to start to argue about it but after my first sentence i was thinking it would be better to shut up, (the whole train was watching me :P). he asked if i could run fast, and said that i had 4 minutes to get a ticket and get back in the train before it left. disappointed and mad at that guy i didn't mind not catching it. So i bought a ticket downstairs and had to wait 45 minutes till the next train arrived. When it arrived i again had to wait 45 minutes till the first bus. When i arrived at home i knew that there wasn't much time left due the "trainkicking" so i ate some and my dad drove me to the station and i went back to school with the train. Not knowing where to find where i must be, i asked the helpdesk where SB-47 was. Feeling a complete newbie two girls behind me had to laugh about that :x. The introduction it self went pretty smoothly and we went to see a movie with the whole section (Wedding Crashers) and we drunk and ate from the barbecue. After that i took the train home and another time had to wait 45 minutes for a bus :(. The public transport system is just a nightmare and time stealing :(
This was my story of the day, if anyone cares :P
So how was your first day of the schoolyear?
edit:
Ow and women should emancipate more, there was just 1 girl out of 150 people doing this occupation oO
Marta 08-29-2005, 06:22 PM I havent even started quite yet. Pretty soon though.....
Dont start school intill next monday
Dude128 08-29-2005, 06:52 PM my first day isn't over yet... this morning I had 3 classes (statics at 9:00, matrix theory and differential equations at 10:00, and introduction to environmental engineering at 11:00), and they don't seem that bad. my statics professor seems very old-school and strict about stuff (homework assignment for every class, he gives us an attendance quiz every day (including today, the first class)... my math professor has a slight accent but is understandable... except I can barely read his hand writing on the board, which could be a problem, and he was moving very quickly- I didn't have time to think about what he was talking about because I was too busy writing the problems down. intro to environmental doesn't seem very interesting, but the professor seems decent and he let us out early, which was nice, instead of filling the time with rambling about the class like some professors do.
but I'm already sick of walking :P the apartment building I live in is all the way at one end of campus, and I had to walk like 8 blocks to the engineering building, then down 3 and get down 2 levels to my next class, then go back up 2 levels and back uphill a couple blocks back to the engineering building, then walk all the way back... I wanted to make myself lunch but I don't have much that doesn't need to be cooked, and our stove doesn't work (the pilot lights won't stay lit and the kitchen therefore smells like gas lol), so I had to go back out around the corner to Subway to get a sandwich.
and what made it all worse was that it was raining the whole time I had to walk anywhere :P
short_gurli 08-29-2005, 06:56 PM hm...i havent started school yet!
Karen_ 08-29-2005, 07:02 PM My first day of classes isn't until the 8th :P
iGeek 08-29-2005, 07:05 PM Don't know, I'll find out tomorrow though!
agwicked 08-29-2005, 07:32 PM i don't go back til the 31st
kittycat 08-29-2005, 08:42 PM If this thread is still on the first page in 2 weeks time I'll come and post then :P But I move in less than one and I haven't even thought about packing yet, oops :dead:
thezeppzone 08-29-2005, 09:17 PM If this thread is still on the first page in 2 weeks time I'll come and post then :P
I am sure it will be, with everyone starting school within these few weeks around Labor Day. I start next Tuesday, but I have been going to the school all summer to do work for the band director, getting ready and everything. When I do start, my 1st and 2nd hour classes don't start until Wednesday because they are at the local university and other people take it, so that will be cool for my first day.
Anyways, I went in today, that was a pain. I had to make copies of stuff for a packet. Problem 1 - I forgot how many he wanted of the different things; Problem 2 - The copy machine decided to stop doing multiple copies after about the 5th sheet so I had to keep pressing the ready button; Problem 3 - I get done with those, get back, realize some of the pages are cutoff, so I go back to the office, and here is; Problem 4 - I start making copies and realize there is a office worker behind me waiting and I knew it was going to take a while so I asked if she wanted to go and I would go to the room down the hall, so I do; Problem 5 - They are turned off, so I have to waig 5 minutes for it to warm up, they finally do, and I get the copies after figuring out how to set it up, it was different than the other one. So I go back to the band room after turning it off, and he gives me 3 more things to make copies of, after I just turned the machine off. So I went back to the office and the person was done so I did them real fast there. So it wasn't an education, but that was my fun day at the school. :)
BrandonLee 08-29-2005, 09:36 PM Wow, my first day of high school was today. One word- oi. My homeroom teacher is a pretty cool person. So is my health teacher first hour but my second hour teacher is older. He is just... strange. Whatever. Third hour choir with the same monster that has taught me forthe last eight years. My forth hour teacher is awesome. He is so funny and really nice. Buisness Econ might be fun. :D! Then there is off campus lunch which I L O V E LOVE! I got to go to a store and buy my own lunch. What a break from the stressful school day. Sixth and seventh hours are boring, math and science. Atleast Idid some math in Algebra which may sound wierd being happy I did work but my god! How many "Profile" cards can I possibly fill out in one day. I mean really, Name, Age, Grade, Hobbies, Talents, Pets, sibling, Address, Phone numbers.. my god! lol. Oh well, high school will be far better then jr. high. Wow that's a big post. Got to get home now. Be on later. ^_^
luvhartz 08-29-2005, 09:49 PM i start on the 7th september it will be good to go back. all new time tables should be nice and confusing lol. il let you know next week :) for now i must dash as the cat is trying to stoke my hand while i type
I start on the 6th of September but I'm going to school tomorrow for a guidance appointment...they decided not to give us our scheduels until the first day...so i decided to get it for my self, they always put all my hard subjects in one semester...and this year, im avoiding it
Owlie42 08-30-2005, 03:09 AM I went back last Wednesday. It was okay. I have my biology teacher from freshman year again (yay), my psychology teacher and my government teacher scare me, my math teacher is a stereotypical teacher (really. This is a first!), orchestra is as always, and my Spanish teacher is odd.
tokyo bleu 08-30-2005, 03:21 AM My first day of school was on the 24th. It was great! I was shocked that the lunch line was twice as long as usual though, haha.
salomeyasobko 08-30-2005, 04:45 AM my first day of school was crap [last thursday]. it was 10000 degrees outside.. some weird random heat wave coming through. we had a long pep rally in the morning where we were supposed to "welcome the freshmen". everyone sat there lamely, chuckling at the ASB people running around, losing their voices, spraying us with confetti.
they changed the schedule this year so lunch is exactly 30 minutes long :( which is really sucky considering our periods are 90 minutes long. basically no break from class at all!
and my classes are very hard, although AP chem is really interesting! it's my favorite class right now. the teacher is so cute!! in a totally platonic way :P he's like.. a 10 year old boy trapped in a thirty year old man's body. eheh and he's really nice :buckt:
BUT other than that, school is a total bummer =( i live for the weekends.
cookiemonster 08-30-2005, 08:48 PM I don't start until friday, we go in later, so we can meet new teachers and get new timetable and such..
Owlie42 08-30-2005, 10:25 PM My first day of school was on the 24th. It was great! I was shocked that the lunch line was twice as long as usual though, haha.
The freshmen at my school don't seem to have grasped the concept of a line. Or doors marked "in" and "out," for that matter. And they apparently have a penchant for stopping in the middle of the main hallways and having conversations.

ditto, except at my school, it's not just freshmen. it's everyone. (sometimes even me for that matter).
anywho-i havent started school yet (start on the 6th) and i'm not much looking forward to it!
And they apparently have a penchant for stopping in the middle of the main hallways and having conversations.
I did that my first year in highschool...but it wasnt the main halls i hate it when people block the main halls and plus you will get trampled at my school...in grade nine me and my friends would randomly decide to sit in the middle of some random hall that barely anyone went by...but you'd still get the odd person going...stupid niners...
jazzberry 08-31-2005, 12:13 AM I like to sit in the middle of the hall, people get mad at me and if someone I know walks by they just laugh hehe ;)
I don't start til the 6th (I think) whenever the day after labour day is
tokyo bleu 08-31-2005, 05:11 AM The freshmen at my school don't seem to have grasped the concept of a line.
Haha, we're still complaining about the length of the line (which is now twice as long as the average length last year). The freshmen just stand there and talk in groups... like, they don't understand that you have to move up once the line starts moving?!
*Jen* 08-31-2005, 09:07 AM My first day will be tomorrow. But I don't want to go!
mordorqueen 08-31-2005, 01:25 PM I don't go back til September 7th.... I'm kind of looking forward to going back as I will be doing subjects I actually ENJOY as I am starting GCSE :)
Lissa 08-31-2005, 03:32 PM I'm sorry your first day back went not-so-well Sphere! It sucks to live so far from school :(
I am so happy to be back now, but I know in 2 weeks I'll be dying for it to be over  My first day was alright, I didn't even have a definite schedule because I couldn't get an appointment with my advisor, all I knew is I had ballet at EIGHT O CLOCK AM. I usually don't wake up until noon. So I'm falling asleep driving to school, finally get there, and thank goodness parking is easy at the dance building in the morning :D Ballet class is too easy, but whatever. So I had a conference with my teacher, she got me an appointment with the advisor, I talked to her, she signed me up for a class that was already going on, so I had to go in late which is embarassing :P Music theory sounds like it's going to be interesting, something I've never done before. Yesterday I went and got all my books, and it was only about $300, I thought it was going to be more :o My first day definitely could have been worse.
Dude128 08-31-2005, 06:11 PM Yesterday I went and got all my books, and it was only about $300, I thought it was going to be more :o
you got off lucky- mine were $485, my roommate spent about $450 and still needs a bunch more, and my other apartmentmate spent like $600... they're so expensive, it's ridiculous.
this is beginning of school related...
when we moved in, our stove didn't work (the burners wouldn't light), and we figured out that the pilot lights weren't lit, so we tried lighting them (only after the housemaster was there- we didn't want to try to light them and blow up the building lol), but they wouldn't stay lit. they came yesterday to "fix" it, but the smell of gas got worse... I called property management, and they really didn't seem too concerned about the strong smell of gas- "is that it?" "yeah" "ok, I'll call it out"- gee, thanks. and they didn't even come. the regular maintenance guy for this building came around looking at one of the bathrooms, because they had a leak on the 6th floor that went down to the 3rd (and we're on the 4th), so he looked to see if the water stains had gotten any worse, and while he was here he checked on the pilot lights. i mentioned the gas smell, and he looked at it more, and there was gas coming out of a valve somewhere, so he just disconnected it and put in a brand new stove this morning :P
so now I can burn my own grilled cheese (::cough::). awesome :P
update on the first meal: ::shudder:: baaad experience. nothing was even burning, but the fire alarms started going off. I ran and put towels at the bottom of the door so that nothing got into the hallway (we were warned that they'd go off when cooking- and told that if the detectors in the halls go off the building gets evacuated and the fire department comes. not fun), and we tried fanning and covering the smoke detectors... nothing worked. I tried calling the housemaster but I got his voicemail, so I called property management and after the woman made sure to get the correct spelling of my name over the OBNOXIOUS NOISE in the background, she connected me with someone else who told me to open the windows. what did he think we were doing, sealing up the apartment and holding burning food up to the smoke detectors? he said we'd just have to wait it out, about 10 minutes- but it stopped before the phone call was over. after that we were still seeing spots from the blindingly bright light we were trying to hold something against, and nearly deaf... I don't think we'll cook much :P
Douglas 08-31-2005, 09:53 PM i havent started yet :) but i dont wanna go back :(
tokyo bleu 09-01-2005, 02:46 AM you got off lucky- mine were $485, my roommate spent about $450 and still needs a bunch more, and my other apartmentmate spent like $600... they're so expensive, it's ridiculous.
I had to spend around $350 for my school books, and I'm only a 10th grader. :dead:
Merike 09-02-2005, 03:17 PM It was quite ok. Boring but ok.
We had this lesson where our homeroom teacher informed us about changes and reminded us some rules. We got Monday's schedule and after that we took first-graders to festive grounds where we listened to bunch of speeches and few songs.
But the first-graders, they talked a lot. I wasn't especially interested in speeches aswell but it wouldn't hurt to hear some of them.
Today we had a trip to Tammsaare's (Estonian writer whose book we had to read during summer) birthplace. There we were showed old buildings and all sorts of tools that were used more than century ago.
Starting on Monday we will have usual 45min lessons, 36 of them each week.
netaholic 09-02-2005, 03:28 PM I also start on the 8th. and I'm also not looking forward to it :-/
unbeknownst 09-02-2005, 11:16 PM My first day of school was August 12, but I will tell you people about it. I got on the bus at 7:10 AM...yes...our school starts at 8. And I got in. My locker was really messing up...I went to my first class, science. I hate science, but our teacher is really cool. I sat behind my friend Hailey, who has all the same classes as me. Our teacher explained the rules, passes out the handbooks, blah, blah blah. Second period was Social Studies...in the High School. I am a middle-schooler, so the trip across the school is not pleasant. Instead of desks, our teacher has big round tables that seat 5 and 5 only...we then went to English...the strict teacher...where you need a 95% or above to get an A...let's say...it didn't go too well. It was...boring. Then I was off to study hall...I had my cool science teacher...then lunch...boring...30 minutes long (way too short, in my opinion). Then Math. I am in Pre-Algebra...then choir...which was a joke last year but now we have to work, and finally our rotation...for 9 whole weeks I have keyboarding (typing) I am now trying to get my mom to homeschool me...no luck, so far.
SizzZzlinhair 09-02-2005, 11:33 PM My first day was August 9th  School starts eaarrrlllyyyy here.
It was really good, it reminded me that I had friends because they all said hi to me in the halls  I hung out with people from my old school all during the summer :P
*Jen* 09-03-2005, 08:07 AM My first day was 1st September, and it was terribly boring. :P
iGeek 09-03-2005, 07:57 PM *sigh* Three day weekends rocks :D First day; not so great, went into the wrong class twice, and let it slip that I could program and stuff, so I'm known as Geek Guy now. (I've learned not to tell anyone after 6th grade; horrible year). And I locked my locker and came back to find that someone had duck taped the dang thing shut, so I was late again. And then I lost my combo and my homeroom teacher had to bolt cut it off. I'm DEFFINITLY not going to go back, although I can't ditch until I'm sixteen (darn it!), well, legally I can't. *sigh*
I start on monday, and I'm looking foward to it mainly because i am doing the lessons that I want to, and I have got less than 40 weeks at school intill I leave. (Unless I got ti college or uni)
Owlie42 09-04-2005, 01:37 AM My first day of school was August 12, but I will tell you people about it. I got on the bus at 7:10 AM...yes...our school starts at 8.
Hah, we start at 7:20. I could have taken a late-arrival option, but the problem is, if I sleep in, then I'll sleep 'til noon. I haven't gone to bed before midnight any day this week, except yesterday, because I've had so much homework. And I still have 40 pages of reading to do for biology, as well as a short essay that looks like it should be for a college application.
Merike 09-04-2005, 11:01 AM then lunch...boring...30 minutes long (way too short, in my opinion)
Our lunch is only 15 minutes. And some breaks are 20 which is so boring because you can't go to eat and there's not much else to do aswell. Though as much as I know for now the dinery (sp?) won't be open next week anyway and noone knows when it will start again so it doesn't really matter.
My first day was today and it was crap, I only had one lesson and that was English, and I have got the same ICT teacher how can not teach at all.
bezelbub99 09-05-2005, 04:13 PM god.....s chool starts tomorrow!! aaah!!!! lol. Im going into seventh grade... evryone tells me seventhgrade is the grade where you have no good frinds.. is this true???
Sphere 09-05-2005, 05:30 PM Today was my first real day.
The bus was late so i missed the train, so i was 30 minutes late :/
And when i was at home i noticed that no one was at home and the door was locked and i didn't got a key. So i took a ladder and broke in, in my own house trough the roof window :D

My mate did that and got arrested for breaking and entering.
Sphere 09-05-2005, 05:37 PM Right.. if he could proove that that house was his, then they don't have any point to arrest him.
SUPER RP06 09-05-2005, 07:33 PM I go back tomorrow. (2005.09.06 Tues)
I'll post something about the first day of the 2005/2006 school year tomorrow evening (my time)
I have my dual-alarm clock radio. I set alarm 1 to 5:30 am and I set alarm 2 to 5:45 am. (my time)
update on the first meal: ::shudder:: baaad experience. nothing was even burning, but the fire alarms started going off. Which brings to fire safety: Where's your nearest emergnegy exit and the alternative exit from your classroom(s)?
...And does your school have tornado/tsunami/earthquake/volcano/(whatever) drills?
And does your school have an emergnecy/violent responce systems? (code red, code blue, code white, code green, code orange, code [whatever])
Douglas 09-06-2005, 08:11 PM i gotta go tomorrow too, :(
hdshngout 09-06-2005, 10:21 PM school hasn't started yet (starts tomorrow), but i am really nervous. (DONT WANNA GO)
Ok so school started today...woo...not...alright first i go...and its so unorganized they changed the way the scheduels were going to be handed out and it screwed everything up...stupid lines...then we arent supposed to have class until 10:15 and the teachers are kicking us out of the forum at quarter to 10 telling us to go to our first class.....i get to my first class and no ones there...joy....so i start to look for other people...i find people...and talk until its time for class...then i see someone i know, which i was happy for, and then had 30 minute classes for all 4 subjects...but i got the greatest welcome in my first 2 classes, chemistry and biology...the teachers were talking to us....and to put things simply saying if you did bad last year in science you should drop your class....which is always great, and my english teacher gave us homeowrk....:S....other than that the only thing i dont like about school this year besides the fact that its school, and im going to have to wake up early is that because i changed my scheduel my locker is nowhere near my first period class which really sucks...but what i dont get is how it got upstairs on the other side of the school because i only really have 2 classes which could have been placed as my first period class that are situated upstairs and its no where near it...:S
thezeppzone 09-07-2005, 03:39 AM Ohhh my time has come to rant! I love this thread! So 1st and 2nd hour made me happy, I didn't have my college class, it starts tomorrow. So I was in the band room, and of course the director is talking about me to the freshman band because I am basically the directors "right hand man", I get the band programs "dirty work". So he talks about the website I did for the program and how I took care of the business and for them to see me. So then the phone rings in his office, I go pick it up. Someone needed him but After I said "next hour" referring to his prep period when I was going to ask who it was they quickly said thanks and bye. Then I had to sign out instruments for freshman, that went well...sort of. These kids are asking for something and I am looking like an idiot scrounging through the instruments trying to find whatever it was I was looking for, they were all in the next room over, they used a different term thatn I was used to for that instrument. Blah. So I go to 3rd hour, math, ok, that was fine. I go to AP Gov, ok, fine. Band, yes, back in the band room. 6th hour is senior english, the basic english for seniors, duh, and there are complete idiots in it. I am afraid it is going to be too basic for me but atleast I will get an A. I got my math and ap gov books, and I get my network administration book tomorrow when I have the class. I had to get two 2" binders, and one 1.5" binder. Those on top of 3 books in my bag? HAHAHA! They are all 3 classes in a row. I am going to have to drop off my college stuff in my cubby hole in the band room before I go to math or there simply won't be room. There isn't really "homework" in the class so it can stay there overnight. The other 2 books I will always need. I was having a great day until I realized all the crap would hardly fit in my bag, and sure enough it barely does, with 1 more book to come. Atleast my classes are easy to get to, I guess, that is a plus...
maztrin 09-07-2005, 11:34 AM my school day started yesterday.
and i woke up late but made it to school on time.
it was a day of absoluelty nothing and i wish i hadnt even bothered going in!
the school was pretty unprepared for us sixth formers to return so the day was spend doing nothing in the common room.
today is SLIGHTLY different we have lessons but NO teachers to teach us.
luvhartz 09-07-2005, 04:13 PM i was due at school at 10:10, but i had to get up at 7 so i could claim a shower.. so [trudge-trudge] i got ready. At the time i didnt know what time i was supposed to start school.. sooo i tried to ring them up, engaged constantly all morning.. so in the end we left mine at 9:40 just incase. Got to school ontime [trudge-trudge] sat in my form room for 2 hours. They made us re-fill out work-experience application forms, because they had decided before the end of last year when we filled them in they werent neat enough. so yeh. Then we had to sort out our time tables (a new one which is a 2 week timetable with different lunch times every day depending on your 4th lesson) finnaly understood what dinner i was supposed to go on. Left, went to the canteen, got told only hot dinners are allowed in there now and we had to go to the burger bar instead. we took one look in there its small cramped and warm.. we ate outside on the benches. Went to 4th lesson which was PE got told what id be doing the next unit (eight weeks of school theres 5 of them except the 5th is only 6 weeks long) then talked in the dance studio for half an hour. Then i went to my last lesson, business communication systems. We have a new teacher.. i thought the last one was bad but oh no, she really takes the biscuit. She treats us like we are five. we are the oldest in the school! I dont particulaly like the class anyway i had 3 good friends in there i sat with all last year. She put us in a seating plan.. why??? anyway the rest of the class are basically the people who practically live in detension - thats when they are in school.. so she had a tough time. it took her half an hour and alittle re arranging. then she tried to work out what we had learnt, gave up and decided to make us answer Qs to find out if we had done the work. Then she gave up on that, and gave us a work sheet with 5 minutes to do the work!!!! So all in all i hated it. my friends are no where near me, the whole class hates the lesson. nobodys going to get anywhere and iv already spoke to my mum about going off time table during her class. Shes agreed if the teach doesnt improve in 2 weeks i can go to my form tutor and head of year and not go to that class anymore. Kind of supprised me actually that she agreed but whatever atleast on ym own with my Tutor il get the work done, sigh.
BTW: in terms of the dinners, 2 days of the week me and my 3 best friends are split into 2 so im going to get an out of school pass, and me and hayley can come home seeing as we live nextdoorbutone to eachother. so yep il only have to suffer the dreaded burger bar 3 days a week, but atleast we will be together..
darkunknown2005 09-07-2005, 09:01 PM wasn't that bad, but I'm glad i get to go to school early like around 7 and get home around 2:30, I'm glad I'm in middle school :), 7th grade ROCKS!
hdshngout 09-08-2005, 12:38 AM Today was my first day and it SUCKED
First the bus was late and it was cold & foggy (which i didnt mind too much)
Then when we finally got to the school, it was packed. My class which graduates in 2008 has the second largest number of kids in the schools history, so its packed enough, but then the freshmen come so the halls were wall to wall.
I got to my homeroom and the hallway was like 99 degrees and the weather channel said it was gonna be cold all day so everyone wore sweatshirts and jeans, so we all sweated our butts off.
But to top it all off, on the first day we have a homeroom in the morning to get our schedules and stuff, while my old homeroom teacher moved to Ohio, so none of the kids in my homeroom including me knew what our homeroom even was. So the teacher finally shows up and theres like 3 minutes until period 1/2 starts, and he gives us our schedules. i checked mine out and was thrilled to find out i didnt have phys ed on the first day (YAY!!!) :)
My schedule was as follows
Period 1/2 Math II R - didnt know anyone in the class
Period 3/4 Spanish II - in a class completely comprized of freshmen
(I am a sophmore...and the freshmen are obnoxious)
Period 5/6 Bio Lab - Knew one person, but we were crammed together
Period 7/8 Activity - No where to go (HATE THE CAFETERIA...i avoid it)
Period 9/10 Bio - Biology AGAIN!!!!
Then once schools over i went outside to wait for the buses, they were all extremely late - cause theres all new drivers.
Got on my bus, and it took forever to leave because the stupid freshmen were lost and couldnt find the buses.
Got home. YAY. Now homework.
