View Full Version : New Computer!
Woohoo! Got a new computer a few days ago...
It's an HP, I got it from Costco, for $1,300. It is An Awesome computer, 250 Gigs of Harddrive space, 1 Gig of RAM, 3 ghz, and Lightscribe DVD RW. Lightscribe is that it prints labels ON the CD using lazers or something, It is AWESOME! Also, My favorite feature, is that it has a TV on it! I plugged in a cable wire into the back of it, and Wala, TV!
19" Flat screen Moniter also came with it.
I'n my opionion, This was the best deal ever! :buckt:
Sphere 08-28-2005, 08:50 PM In my opinion you can get better deals for that price, but its a cool pc yeah :)
kittycat 08-28-2005, 08:52 PM Question.... why would you ever need a 250 GB harddrive?
I wouldn't, But why not have it? hehe :)
bejayel 08-28-2005, 09:17 PM i am using 3 hard drives right now..2 120 gigs (upgraded one) and a 40 gig. If you do the right stuf with it, having more than one, or having partitions, is extremely nice to have.
For example, photoshop, (actually any grapics applications) should have its on hard drive. Having them on seperate drives makes them work faster, better, and causes less fragments. Of course i mean differant physical drives, not virtual partitions.
Plus, you would be amazed how quickly you go through the space. When i first got a 40 gig, i never though i would use it all. Now i am trying to keep my 120 gigs clean.
Yeah I was thinking about having seperate partitions, WebDesign, Flash, Fireworks... How would I do this? I've never really partitioned a hard drive, and I really can't afford to break this computer...
tokyo bleu 08-29-2005, 12:32 AM Very nice computer, though I agree with Sphere, it does seem you could've gotten it for at least around $1K.
I love HP -- your computer specs are very sweet.
Ayosu_Ling 08-29-2005, 03:15 AM i'm glad for you :)
i have no clue what all that info means, but hey, whatever.lol
Heh, Thanks, I really don't see how I could of gotten a better deal though, Do remember, It came with a 19 Inch flat screen monitor, Which is a few hundred dollers, and it is a Media Center computer, with S-Video ports and loads of things in that sort.
tokyo bleu 08-29-2005, 03:42 AM t is a Media Center computer
Ahh, Media Center Edition! In any case still, congrats on your deal. I'd love to buy a new desktop, but I'll wait until Windows Vista comes out preinstalled on computers.
I've got partitions on my computer, 1 for me and my brother, 1 for my sisters to play games on and on for the internet and work.
luvhartz 08-29-2005, 12:06 PM if i move to australia next year which is most likely, il get a new computer then, until then i dont see the point really because it will just end up on ebay for half the price trying to get rid of it before i move ergh. i for one would never think about buying a computer worth that much its allot of money espesh for a 15year old looking for a job.. i;d rather spend my money on my motorbike next year... anyway congrats! and i dont buy new computers, i get new parts and gets my brother to build it for half the price muahahaha lol
Ohh I guess I should of told you guys that? Yeah its Windows Media Center Edition.
adrielle 08-29-2005, 03:35 PM I'm happy for you congrats :D
Sphere 08-29-2005, 06:23 PM Question.... why would you ever need a 250 GB harddrive?
Some people like me know what to do with the space,
i got:
1 * 74 GB (WD raptor 10.000 rpm)
2 * 200 Gb
2 * 120 GB
1 * 80 GB
(thats 752 GB)
and soon a 300 GB.
i just like to store stuff, am i a geek? :P
i know someone with 1.3TB in raid1, thats geeky :P
bejayel 08-29-2005, 06:42 PM When i used to use DC++ there was a guy sharing 2.7 TB (2700 approx. GIGS) of shared space, plus he had another 5 TB to fill up. Thats friggin crazy. These new mobos from ASUS allow for up to 400 hard drives...

eh 400 hard drives? are you SURE?
i think my motheboard from asus has one of the most connectors (its a Asus a8V deluxe) it has 3 IDE channels and 4 SATA channels, so you could hook up 3 * 2 + 4 = 10 harddrives, 400 is impossible and no ide/sata controller can handle that. Come with proove and i believe you :)
Don't say use a splitting pci riser and another one and another one and another one and hook up 20 raid controllers to handle those disks, thats not fair :P
