The simplest way is just to resize the image using width and height attributes in the img tag...see here:

well that suggestion would work sjb but the file size would be
large and slow in loading.
some graphics programs can create thumbnails for you.
Personally I use Easy Thumbnails to create them.
http://www.fookes.com/
on the settings set the prefix to your initials. this will save the thumb with the original name and your initials at the beginning. also i set the max width & height to 100

I use front page so I create a table 2 columns, then inside 1 column I create another table with 2 columns. On 1 side i place the name and the other side I place the thumbnail, then i right click and go to image properties and add the url to the original file page. I create a page with the original as well.
hope this helps

I have no idea what you are using to create your pages, sorry

when i do thumbnails i crop them smaller in my image program...
bacially i pick a area i want, select it in a square format, and copy it...then open a new file and paste it then save... if the image is to big you make it smaller (most programs will let you resize images ok, i usually choose 50*50 or 80*80 ... i dont do 100*100 because thats a avatar size bacially and if you have a lot of thumbnails it will take a while... but thats just me, lol ...

one rule i use, never resize images with html, especially if they are huge and have more than 1 ... it will take forever to load...

I will suggest an easy way to create thumbnails. I always follow this procedure. Open a blank new document in photoshop with required size that of your thumbnail size. Select your complete document area (canvas) by Ctrl+A or with marquee tool. Let be the selection as it is. Open your images to be converted to thumbnails. Drag the selection area (that you created in the intital blank document ) over to your image. The selection (the size of your thumbnail) Marquee is now on your image. Move the selection (with arrow keys on keyboard) over an intresting area on your image. Copy the same and open another document. Photoshop automatically creates exact size equal to clipboard. Paste it on new document. Repeat the process for rest of the images.
Note: Bringing down whole image to thumb nail size is not a good practice. If all the images are not the same size you may have proportion problem with heights and widths when they are resized. It is better to select intresting area over the image to the thumbnail size to create an intrest to the viewers.
If the above is note understandable or confusing please ask me if you have further doubts.
