View Full Version : Language.
Ayosu_Ling 08-24-2005, 04:49 AM Alright I need advice. I decided that my goal for this new school year is to learn a language besides the one I'm taking for school (Japanese) because I'm cool like that and I can multi-task (LOL;;) The thing is, I want to learn a European Langauge, but I'm not sure which one. Any suggestions?
I was thinking of GERMAN, and I started learning it like two years ago but I couldn't quite grasp the accent so I gave up. lol. And FRENCH seemed too difficult.
I am thinking that maybe I should do something of my heritage, which includes Swedish, or Czech. Does anyone know these languages and have any suggestions? Or suggestions for languages in general?
Anyways I'd appreciate it, I wanna start soon. XD

kittycat 08-24-2005, 05:36 AM French isn't that hard to learn, as with most languages (except sign language :P) the accent might be the hardest part to learn.
One of the Scandinavian languages - can't remember which - is supposed to be really hard to learn (to get "certified" to speech the language, like as a tour guide or something, you only need to know like 20 words). I'm thinking that might be Finnish and not Swedish though. I know two words in Czech (some kind of greeting, and 'pozor' - attention), but I was so tempted to buy a translated Harry Potter while I was over there just to say I had an HP book in Czech :P
German (for no particular reason) and Italian (because of the great food :P) are ones I've kind of wanted to learn, just for fun.

i would say try french :) its pretty easy for me to learn but that might just be because i'm really dedicated since i love french/france :buckt: it's a beautiful language, i think learning it could be really rewarding for ya :D
*Jen* 08-24-2005, 10:17 AM I think German is terribly difficult... I suggest learning French: I hated it in the first few months, but now I love it. :)

Hey, those were my suggestions. I want to learn those, too :P Granted, I'd want to learn Italian because of my heritage, but the food is an excellent reason as well :P
Douglas 08-24-2005, 05:40 PM learn french i find it very easy
Karen_ 08-24-2005, 11:47 PM how bout sign language?
Oh man, that would be so cool. I've always wanted to learn sign language
I would learn french just because I live in Canada and I feel really stupid when I leave the province because I'm surrounded by french provinces. I know the vocabulary, I just can't put it into sentences lol. French would just be practical for me. If I was in the US I'd learn spanish. I don't like learning languages, so I just don't see thethrill in learning a language that I don't get to use very often, but I know some people enjoy that kind of stuff.
Monkey Bizzle 08-25-2005, 02:44 AM I would also suggest French. I took 3 years of it in high school and it was fairly easy to learn. As with anything, you have to take notes and study...

EVERYONE says French is easy but for me it just seems so difficult, like all the weird pronounciations and stuff! (lol)
^i've read harry potter in russian
wow that's so awesome!! XD
Lissa 08-25-2005, 03:47 AM Ooooh, my favorite part of French was speaking it!! :D It came easy to me, probably because I did it before, during, and after school :P It's not really that difficult, and did you know that French is the second-most spoken language in the world, right behind English? :)
I guess you can tell what my recommendation would be
iGeek 08-25-2005, 03:48 AM I ALMOST took French, then I took Spanish again. And I still barely know it. Take Spanish :D
Monkey Bizzle 08-25-2005, 04:05 AM ...did you know that French is the second-most spoken language in the world, right behind English?
hah! You could have fooled me! As many illegal Mexicans that live in this country I would have thought it was Spanish!
Munchkin 08-25-2005, 08:05 PM I think I would either root for French or Spanish (maybe that's cause those are the two languages I'm taking :P)
...did you know that French is the second-most spoken language in the world, right behind English? :)
I thought it was English, Spanish and Mandarin (Chinese)?
kittycat 08-26-2005, 12:18 AM French is second most in terms of number of countries. Mandarin and English are first and second in terms of number of speakers
