Alright I'm not sure if this is just in Minnesota-where I live-but in the summer time we usually have two types of fairs: The Reniassance fair (verrrrrrry bad SP lol) and the State fair. The Reniassance Fair is just a bunch of shops and people dressed up from the Reniassance days-and the State Fair..well it's just a fair. :P

But I went to the Reniassance fair the other day. It was pretty interesting & me and a friend got to try on nifty Reniassance clothes in the shops (old skirts & hats) so it was pretty interesting.

Anyways-to make this a convo, what types of fairs do you have where you live? Do you go to them every year? Do you have any interesting experiences from them? Likes&Dislikes about them? Pet peeves?

around here (southeastern-ish New York) there's a Renaissance Faire and the county fair... never been to the renaissance faire (and the radio ads are incredibly annoying). I haven't been to the county fair in ages- it's too expensive (it used to be like $4 to park [they changed to free parking within the last few years, I think], I think $12/person to get in, then you have to pay for food and rides and whatnot... it's ridiculous) and i just don't care for them (mmm... cotton candy with the smell of farm at no additional charge) :P

We have the "Hawaii State Fair", which consists of amusement park rides and local musicians. Boring and a waste of money. Oh, we also have annual Japanese-cultured fairs (though it's more like you show up and buy Japanese food from booths).

I would LOVE to attend a Renaissance fair... trying on gowns, etc. would be wicked.

we have the del mar fair but that's a little different, it's more like an amusement park with concerts and different activities that comes to the del mar race tracks every summer.

and then there is a local street fair in my area- i think they refer to it as a fiesta, though there isn't much mexican influence in it- but i've never been to it, its mostly for little kids.. face painting, astro jumps, a little ferris wheel, etc. booringg :P

the seventh graders get to have a Renaissance fair every year because thats when we learn about that part of history. it was really fun, there are lots of booths and games and just different cute activities. i got to wear a big poofy dress so that was cool :buckt:

the Japanese one sounds awesome!! I love Japan and I'm studying Japanese.. I wish we had that here :(

I don't really know about the State Fair though. I've only been there a few times, and it's just pretty expensive and boring, I think. Just a bunch of tourists, [insert random food here] on a stick's (which are really greasy like you wouldn't image), and 3.50$ sodas. There isn't much entertainment for me in that. But yeah, I dunno.
Alright, well I have a little fair horror story to share with you. (sorry if this is explicit lol) well there was this booth that everyone went to that was like pay 1.00 or 2.00 or something and drink all the milk that you want. Which is pretty RANDOM now that I think about it..buttttttttttttt I did. And I ended up throwing up. It was awful.

hah, so I thought I would grace you all with my wondermus State-Fair story. lol

Haha, yeah, seeing as Hawaii is an extremely popular Japanese tourist spot and we have a lot of Japanese citizens too. The Japanese schools & Buddhist temples like to plan this stuff.

Im from Minnesota too :) Ive never been to the Renaissance fair, but Ive been to the State Fair. I find it fun because I exhibit stuff in the 4-H building and stay in the top of the building. Well the part about climbing the stairs to the dorm is probobly not the fun part. Im going on Saturday, and staying the next Saturday, Sunday, Labor Day Monday.

I go to the Renaissance Festival every year...and steal the fiddler's violin. Much funness. We also have the state fair, and the county fair, and this little thing that the township puts on, which is stupid.

^

Where I live is extremely boring and we have no fairs whatsoever. I wish it would get more art-sy and creative without getting too 'westernised'. :P

Yesss those big poofy dresses uh huh :D I just read someone's blog and found out what the Renaissance fair was lol.

I'd like to go to Hawaii :)
