View Full Version : Google Talk
Blakelyn 08-23-2005, 05:07 PM http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9050519/
Google Inc. is set to introduce its own instant messaging system, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday, marking the expansion by the Web search leader into text and also voice communications.
Citing unnamed sources "familiar with the service," the Los Angeles Times said that Google's Instant Messaging program would be called Google Talk and could be launched as early as Wednesday.
This is cool - I bet it will be much better than AIM or Trillian.
By the way - I like this new thread for news, but not "nut news".
starlet 08-23-2005, 06:10 PM Oh awesome! I'm a huge google fan (did you know they have built in calculators and currency converters etc etc...seriously, go type in 'What is 2 x 20?' or 'how much is £57 in $?' and it tells you...google owns me) so i'm sure it'll be brilliant!!
Google is like x10000000 times better than Microsoft, they think they are kings with MSN search and that...
netaholic 08-24-2005, 01:01 AM like starlet, im a google fan. anything google does is high quality. i can't wait...
tokyo bleu 08-24-2005, 04:37 AM http://www.google.com/talk/
It's up for download!
kittycat 08-24-2005, 04:48 AM Using it right now, and it's pretty cool, very simple :)
Dude128 08-24-2005, 04:54 AM I feel like such a geek. I downloaded it, installed it, and promptly added/invited the 4 people that I could think of off the top of my head that have gmail. heh.
hey, if it takes off, I don't want to be behind the times and have to catch up with adding people :P
and I just realized that I can't try out the actual talk feature because I don't have a microphone. duh.
tokyo bleu 08-24-2005, 05:00 AM No chatroom feature yet, I see. I hope it gets implemented. :)
kittycat 08-24-2005, 05:22 AM and I just realized that I can't try out the actual talk feature because I don't have a microphone. duh.
That frightened me when a friend 'called' me - The laptop started ringing all of a sudden, I usually keep the sound muted but it automatically turned it on. Quality is better than what I've experienced on MSN though.
Custom messages are fun.
tokyo bleu 08-24-2005, 06:57 AM I can't get over the fact that it's so not bloated and clean, unlike the other IM clients.
ZacEv 08-24-2005, 07:22 AM Any1 tried the google world feature? now that definately is one of the bets things they have! U can look anywhere in the world! even fidn ur own house! Also if u got the google thing PM me ur addy :P
Blakelyn 08-24-2005, 12:22 PM I have to wait till I get home from work to try it out. I'm excited! I want everyones name as well :)
All of google's products are the best :cheer2: , seriously, they might even get bigger than microsoft if google's software is better than microsoft, and it is at the moment. I hope MSN search doesn't take off, I want google to win the search engine battle.
starlet 08-24-2005, 04:40 PM I just downloaded and installed it :) Don't have any one to talk to on it though so it's just sitting there doing nothing lol
I wonder if i'll be able to use the talk thing, i dont have a microphone as such but my webcam has one built into it....
Blakelyn 08-24-2005, 04:45 PM I was too impatient, so I installed it on my computer at work. Hope I dont gt caught :). Only person I have to talk to is my boyfriend though.
SUPER RP06 08-24-2005, 06:11 PM This is a cool program, but I'm not interested in Google Talk. I like Google Earth better.
Sphere 08-24-2005, 08:25 PM i tried it and it rox :P
and it was downloaded AND installed in like 3 seconds oO
i like the clean interface.. i like a lot of google stuff
hdshngout 08-24-2005, 09:22 PM Yeah, i downloaded it right when i saw it was online. Only problem is i only know 1 person who has a gmail. oh well. eventually others will have it.
Blakelyn 08-24-2005, 09:24 PM I dont think it'll be long before google talk replaces aim. I dont like Aim or Trillian, but I think Google needs to make Google Talk compatible w/ other chat things like Trillian does. Oh, and they need some smileys :).
It looks clean which i think is amazing...i don't know msn has been bugging me lately with all the ads everywhere...but i doubt I'll use googletalk untill they enable it with other instant messenger services (i.e hotmail) because the majority of my friends don't have a google account and aren't that great with computers so change is usually not an option...but they said they were working on it..so i guess thats good
starlet 08-25-2005, 12:29 AM I don't like that it doesn't have an 'auto away' feature :(
Sphere 08-25-2005, 12:34 AM A funny thing that happened today..
I was talking to a mate while he was on his work. after he got home i was still messaging to his google talk and i was thinking why he wasn't responding all the time. After a while it appeared that he left that pc on his work on and went home.. :P
iGeek 08-25-2005, 01:23 AM ^^ :lolol:
I'm gonna get it asap, as soon as I get outa AOL. Did you know that the Mature Teen account doesn't let outside programs access the internet?!?! I hate AOL.
Oh, wow starlet, howd you know Google did that? Is it alright if I call you Google Geek now on? (Has a nice ring to it, lol) j/k
Douglas 08-25-2005, 01:25 AM google talk sounds good i think ill get it!! wooHoo :D
tokyo bleu 08-25-2005, 02:55 AM Some unknown tips for Google Talk...
For italic text, use _ _ around your text. For example, _Hello World_ prints Hello World.
For bold text, use * * around your text. For example, *Hello World* prints Hello World.
ZacEv 08-25-2005, 08:04 AM i forgot my gmail accoutn so i cant use it :P

I have no one to talk to though lol. Anyone wanna add me? PM me and I'll send you my address ;)
starlet 08-25-2005, 04:46 PM I used it last night...feels funny my text not being pink, no smilies etc!
Also used the 'talk' thing but I can't make noise at night cos people are sleeping so i was whispering away into my webcam and the person i was talking to was typing back as they don't have a mic...was quite surreal lol
iGeek 08-25-2005, 04:52 PM I'm really mad; I can't use it couse of AOL. :grouch:
It sounds great, though :D
oaneex 08-25-2005, 04:57 PM i love it. i've installed it and i'm trying it out for the past two days, and i find it's actually ery good, especially because it's just in beta version. i like it's clean layout, no ads and lack of stupid accesoiries like buzzers and winks.
Mattice 08-25-2005, 05:21 PM Lol. I added you btw Starlet, hope you don't mind! I'm only 14 lol so I doubt I'm gonna stalk you or anything! :D

sisqoluv 08-25-2005, 11:03 PM I'll probably download it, but I'm trying to wait. I hardly use IMs nowadays, but I'm tempted, lol. I know that I'll customize it and all of that, use it for a week, and won't run it for months on end until I come across it again.
And I don't like downloading things so soon after being released.
iGeek 08-26-2005, 12:05 AM When I get it I'm gonna customize it too:D The hacker programs you can find these days...
starlet 08-26-2005, 01:00 AM Lol. I added you btw Starlet, hope you don't mind! I'm only 14 lol so I doubt I'm gonna stalk you or anything! :D
ahh see that's why not having auto-away is annoying...i wasn't at my puter from like 6pm - 1am but forgot to log out/set it as away, rawr.
tokyo bleu 08-26-2005, 01:28 AM It sounds great, though :D
Not really at this stage. I cannot wait for Google to add more features.
adrielle 08-26-2005, 04:47 AM Awesome!! :D
I'll download it as soon as I get back. I remember when GMail came out I was discussing it with some friends and we agreed that all Google needed to do was to come out with a IM programme and it'll take over the world :buckt:
whoa Google's coming out with so many things I can't keep up. Google rocketh my sockeths
ZacEv 08-26-2005, 12:52 PM What will they do next? Buy there own TV channel? I can imagine it now "Channel G"
youley 08-26-2005, 03:02 PM Dat would be cool.
Mattice 08-26-2005, 05:28 PM ahh see that's why not having auto-away is annoying...i wasn't at my puter from like 6pm - 1am but forgot to log out/set it as away, rawr.
Yeh lol, I though you were ignoring me but now I know you weren't. Does MSN have an auto-away thingy?
tokyo bleu 08-27-2005, 06:01 AM What will they do next? Buy there own TV channel? I can imagine it now "Channel G"
Actually, Google purchased miles and miles of unused fiber-optic cable accross the US and acquired connections with Cogent Communications and WilTel... free Google WiFi, anyone? ;)
I don't mean to derail the topic, but if anyone's interested, read more (http://www.business2.com/b2/web/articles/0,17863,1093558,00.html).
iGeek 08-28-2005, 04:22 AM YAY! I got it! Its sitting there looking purtty at the moment; no one to talk too... Gmail names, anyone?
