what graphics program are you using?
this should work in most graphics programs....here is my 4 cents ;-)
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a23/tayina/meang.png
newimage, fill pink back, 4 images on seperate layers, resized & places into position, larger image with pink dropshadow, all images blurred, newlayer text title added, newlayer creator name added. all layers merged and blind effect done. selection for boardre inverted filled black, drop shadow added, select none.
& this one done the same way

landscape sunset image background, 4 images on four layers blended & masked, newlayer swirl image with reduced opacity possibly with halftone effect, newlayer centre text title reduced opacity, newlayer text white, newlayer multicolor text, newlayer text creators name, merged, selection boarder 1- inverted filled with white, select none, selected boarder 2 (over white but with edge) inverted filled black.

these squares can also be a mask. but i'd try halftone square & then reduce opacity or set layer as overlayer, or softlight. (see layer properties)
Hope this helps
