View Full Version : div problems
fatora 06-08-2003, 12:40 PM hey i´m new here so hi all!!!
this web is amazing!
well i have problems, i asked a friend who send me here but i couldn´t get over this problem yet :(
the thing is i want a box to post my upload there and i want to put pics and link and all that stuff so somebody told me i need a code, an html code, so i put it on my web but it doesn´t work
the thing is i use front page and i don´t know if it is a problem, coz i open the page where i want to put the div and i go to html but when i see the preview what appears is the code, like normal words not the box :(
can you help me?
MaGiCSuN 06-08-2003, 12:48 PM Can you post the code you are currently using? :)
Love,
Mirna
fatora 06-08-2003, 12:51 PM the one i cached from the web, well one of them at last :) :
<DIV id="name" style="position: absolute; top: 100px; width:100px; left: 100px;" align=left>Your HTML </DIV>
MaGiCSuN 06-08-2003, 01:03 PM I think it's just frontpage that is again messing up html codes blah
becuase you code is perfectly fine :) there's nothing wrong with it
Anywayz there are two things to try out:
1. add more content to the div box, it could be that the text is too little so it won't show up although it must show up anywayz but you'll never know!
2. use notepad instead. It's similar to frontpage, you type your html and you save it. Just open up notepad, type your html, click File>save and select "all files" in the drop down menu. Then type in the "file" field YOURfileNAME.html you must type .html behind it, and replace YOURfileNAME with the name you want the file to be named. Now you are done :) you can preview it in your browser by looking up the file and then double click it, it will open in your IE browser

fatora 06-08-2003, 03:15 PM is not working... :(
i´m sorry i´m bothering you so much but i don´t undestand why is not working
i put all in notepad and nothing appeared, the first step i didn´t undestand it :/
MaGiCSuN 06-08-2003, 04:58 PM Can you post the whole lot of codes you have put in the notepad file? thanks :)
with the first step i meant that you have to add more text inside the div box. In the example it only has "Your HTML" so try to type more and see what happens. Also it might help to specify an "height" too in your div code, i'm not sure if it will make a diference but still, it's worth to try :)

MaGiCSuN 06-09-2003, 03:42 PM I don't see why you use tables and position at the same time :S
because when you allready have a table you don't need absolute positioning, because the content automatically goes into a cell so it's automatically on that same place.
The div appears at the top, when you have the absolute positioning part in it. I change the code to this:
<DIV id="name" style="width:100px;" align=left>Your HTML </DIV>
and then it appears on the place you wan't it to appear
you also have set top and left to -16 etc, that's not possible. You can only set from 0 to above, but not below.
also i would decide whether to use tables or divs, because if you do use absolute positioning then why need tables? they are useless then....
also this:
<p align="right"> </p>
<p align="right"> </p>
<p align="right"> </p>
i have no clue why it's there, because it doesn't align anything...
and you have linked some of your images to your harddrive, make sure you chang eit otherwise nobody will see the images only you.

Mirna
