im using photoshop 5, and im wondering how i can make a certain color transparent (upon saving) for a gif.

I'm running Photoshop 7, so I'm not sure if some things may be in different locations or are called different names, but its worth a try.
When you're saving your transparent gif..
Under File, look for Save for Web (or something similar). When you click that you should get a box. In PS7 theres a box that you can check for transparency, so see if you see something in your PS5, check it, or set any option available to transperancy.

i got to the save as web part, but i'm stuck there. i took a screencap of what my screen looks like. the parts in red is what i want to be transparent. notice how the transparent option jsut does not work

is this a web shot or a program shot? sorry. Have you tryed opening it in your browser.
when i save .gif i cant see the transparencey till I view it in my browser.

Also are you selecting that color to be transparent?

thats a program shot. it turned out a lot smaller than i thought it would, but basically the box that allows be to select tha transparency is grey, and wont allow me to select it

is it a full version? cause you should be able to select a color to be transparent. Has the image been merged? If it's not that could be the problem. I can't see really anything in the image you posted though.

it's still not working! is it possible that this is a glitch in the program?

Try deleting the background, so that white and grey squares appear where you would like it to be transparent, than File > Save as... > Format: .gif > Save > Tick the Transparency and click OK.
