You might want to make your other site on it http://newsite.mydomain.com/ instead of http://www.mydomain.com/newsite/

If you do that, it's a simple matter of parking http://www.newsite.com/ onto http://newsite.mydomain.com/

You could also use a redirect, if you don't like subdomains.

I still don't understand.. do I have to purchase a new package on my host for my new domain?

my host is brinkster.com , my domain is vividness.net , and my new site is vividness.net/the-aisling , and my new domain is the-aisling.com. I thought that I could just buy a domain and then use url forwarding to link to my site... but do I have to buy a page with my host too? :(

here is the page that I have my url redirect on:

http://www.vividness.net/abby/forward.gif

if you want...
http://www.the-aisling.com
then you will have to contact brinkster to set it up either on your current account with them or a new one.
that is known as a full domain name.

it looks like they support "subdomains" which would be if you made a folder such as...
http://www.vividness.net/the-aisling
you can probably access like this...
http://the-aisling.vividness.net
which is no problem. that way it is a subdomain, not a full domain.
