View Full Version : CSS Rollover buttons hate me!

Hello,

I'm in the middle of re-doing my website and although I know CSS I can't seem to get the hang of the CSS Rollover buttons.

I've followed every tutorial out there and while I can get the rollovers to work, I can't seem to position it correctly. It always seems to float in the middle of the page or fall UNDER my layout. I have re-adjusted the divs until I pull my hair out.
Sometimes I can get it to work perfectly for Mozilla but not for IE and v/v.
(*head, desk* *head, desk*)
Evil buttons will be the death of me.

Here is the idea that I am going for...(this is a crudely done PSP sketch but you'll get the idea) THE IDEA (http://www.rhapsodyinlyss.com/idea.jpg). I want the buttons to stay there in that strip on the top .

Please, I beg of you, help me to defeat the evil buttons!
(and if you could tell me in as simple terms as possible that would be great too since my brain is fried)

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! I appreciate it beyond belief!

DOWN WITH EVIL BUTTONS!

Can you post your code/link to the page? (page might be better so we can see how it doesn't work)

Ack! I took everything down because I was so infuriated.

But from looking at that sketch would you be able to give me the code to do it? And then after using THAT code, if it doesn't work I can post it here.

I know it's a lot to ask, if you can't do it I understand.

The easiest way that should work is absolute positioning your divs/images. If you're trying to centre the layout that's where it might be a bit different, depending on the CSS rollover that you're using. I know for a fact that this method (http://www.alistapart.com/articles/sprites/) works in both IE and firefox, I think you can use it with both absolute positioning and other centring. You could try that method (if it's different from the one you're using) to see if it makes a difference, but there's not really like a general code or something I can give, since you already know absolute positioning. Someone else might come along with a better plan though.
