Well it's like many blending modes, not just one. Lots of things play into a blend. Some things are opacity, blend mode, effects you add, etc... Blending them to look like one solid picture is just perfecting blending itself. Practice with different pictures or pictures with the person who is in one type of photoshoot. Try practicing with a brush that feathers into other pictures. I'm sorry I can't really demo anything for you, I'm not on my home computer at the moment

well.... i have psp9 and i blend celebrities and stuff so, here is the manual=
3 picture blend=
find two pictures you like and paste them on the same page, one on one side, one on the other. then,-
go to layers>duplicate
paste the 3rd picture in the middle of the page.
click on the eraser and set the things to=
hardness-62
thickness-100
step-25
rotation-0
density-100
opacity-50
start erasing around your 3rd picture. tada.
FOR BEST RESULTS-
When you are finished, go to
Layers>Merge>merge all (flatten)
then
Layers>properties>blend mode> soft light> ok.
all done!

Blending is perhaps one of the easiest things that you can do. However it's also easier said than done.
INSERTNAMEHERE: I have a few problems with what you said:
- Your image placement isn't really original. It's all fine and good to place them side by side but really you should have said to be more inspired.
- The eraser isn't a good blending tool, layer masks allow for mistakes so you don't screw things up to the point where you have to start over. It's always frustrating to have to start over.
- You don't mention brushes, textures or anything that could offer her/him more than a blend mode. :\
I don't know what program you have but if it's Photoshop you can find some blend tutorials linked here (http://resources.valcha.net/?page_id=31). If you have PSP and or PS then you can find tutorials here (http://valcha.net)/

It was made using Photoshop CS but it can work with 7 and quite possibly 6.
