MaGiCSuN 06-24-2005, 07:31 PM i'm soo thirsty when it's so hot outside, so i'm wondering if anyone got some healthy drinks that you can make yourself?! i'm dying to try something new ;) Kubi 06-24-2005, 08:15 PM How about a fruit smoothie? Altough it isn't realy refreshing Magln Meow 06-24-2005, 08:33 PM Smoothies are great, especially on hot days. I like mine with blueberries, strawberries, and a banana. :9 Try freezing some sliced oranges, they taste delicious. I like drinking lemonade, fruit punch, and lots of Snapples during this kind of weather. Mmmm... or maybe you could make yourself a nice glass of iced tea. kittycat 06-24-2005, 10:37 PM Not really a drink, but I always like putting orange juice or some kind of juice in ice cube trays and freezing it... like little popsicles almost :) Kubi 06-24-2005, 11:04 PM I do that with Pepsi:PI thought I was the only strange one. :buckt: Owlie42 06-24-2005, 11:10 PM Iced chai. That stuff is amazing. Throw frozen raspberries, peaches, ice cubes and some honey in the blender-my favorite smoothie. tokyo bleu 06-25-2005, 12:55 AM Not really a drink, but I always like putting orange juice or some kind of juice in ice cube trays and freezing it... like little popsicles almost :) Yes, it's so refreshing and wicked. lefty 06-25-2005, 01:03 AM I have the little black book of smoothies: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0880884703/qid=1119657776/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/002-6320324-1004854 It's like, the best book in the world. starlet 06-25-2005, 02:32 AM I've been chmoping ice pops (perhaps these are known in america as popsicles?) the last week or so, far more refreshing than a drink...and they are nothing more than water and some flavouring... Karen_ 06-25-2005, 03:48 AM Nothing beats water. But I've been cutting lemons into wedges and putting one in a glass of cold water. It's really refreshing. I usually sqeeze the lemon wedge a bit, plop it in the water, let it sit for a little while and mmmmm... Oh, and iced tea is awesome. I've never been able to make iced tea, I've tried but no luck. Has anyone ever made good iced tea (sweetened) not from powders or frozen stuff? I don't think I've never had a smoothie before. Cherchezlafemme 06-25-2005, 04:51 AM For wolf_pup: Well my mom and I make sun tea it's a very refreshing recipe and maybe tastes slightly different than the regular stuff. What you need: -Lipton Iced Tea packets or any Tea of your choice (or loose herb teas [ones w/o the bag]) -Water -Whatever you'd like to add towards to end (ice for iced tea, sugar, lemon/lime etc...) -***A milk jug (empty) [you can use any size depending on how much tea you'll make] -Funnel (to pour tea into the gallon jug) -A big pot [again you can use any size depending on how much tea you'll make] -A sunny day ***Tip: If you use a purified/filtered water gallon/anysize jug that you buy at the store then you can just reuse it afterwards to pour the tea in!!! Steps: 1.) Get your pot, put it on a burner on your stovetop, and pour in water. Preferably purified water. Make sure you save your jug if you used the tip I gave! 2.) Set the burner to Medium or 4/5 depending on your burner setting. Let the water sit until it get into a noticible bubbling boil. Do not put the tea in until the water is hot and boiling!!! 3.) Once it starts boiling, turn the burner down a notch and put it your loose tea leaves/herbs or bags. Your package usually has how many bags to water. A gallon would take like perhaps 6 or 7 bags. Also it depends on how strong your teas are and how strong you want them to taste. 4.) Let your tea have a nice brew in the water. You can stop once the water becomes the color of your tea (green or orangey brown). Also before you stop, if you believe you didn't add enough tea bags then add some more to your liking. 5.) Have the tea you desire? Then get out your jug and funnel, start pouring the hot tea into the jug. Be careful because it's hot, duh :P lol Once you poured it all in, then place the lid on top. At this time you can strain out the loose herbs and leaves. It's your choice to keep in tea bags or not. I like to keep them in because a little extra flavor will stay with the tea. 6.) Have a nice sunny day out? Yes! Good. Find the sunniest spot on your patio or grass, once you've found it make sure it can get sun from all points of the day. since the sun rises and sets and good time woul dbe maybe when the sun is half way. 7.) The sun has already set and it's time for you to take your tea back in. Place your tea for a nice chill in the refrigerator. Wait until morning to make your iced tea. 8.) Find a nice pitcher and a some glasses, add your lemon/lime, sugar, and ice cubes if you want to. Also if you have some remaining tea in the jug, save it and heat it up on the stove it'll be a nice warm cup of tea. Good job and enjoy a nice refreshing beverage on those hot days =D Some other things are don't microwave the water to make it hot. It's just stove top )electric or gas) and microwave comes out with different teas for some reason. Maybe because the brewing processes are different, it just comes out tasting less than what the stove can give you. -------------- Here's one recipe I like mirna! Rasberry Iced Tea Soda Ingredients: -Club soda (Carbonated Water) -Rasberry Syrup -Well crushed ice cubes -Brewed Tea of your choice (I like to use green tea) -Heavy Cream -Whipped Cream or whipped topping Steps: 1.) Get a glass (this is made glass by glass, you can't mix it all in one big pitcher). Pour in about 2 tablespoons of the rasberry syrup. Depending on how strong of a rasberry taste you'd like. 2.) Pour in half a cup of your brewed tea, do not stirr the syrup and tea together (it will mix by itself). 3.) Pour in your club soda, about half a cup as well. 4.) Place loads of crushed ice cubes, I'd say a full cup would do it. 5.) Add your cream and let seep down through the ice and into the drink part. Put in as much as you'd like to have without over kill. 6.) Place a dollop whipped topping and maybe a cherry on top and enjoy! I love tea infused drinks and I like making up stuff with it ^_^ Btw I use the measurements are US sorry metric people =/ I'm sure you can find equivalents for the measurements I used. Owlie42 06-25-2005, 08:49 PM ^That sounds good...*wanders off to see if there are tea bags in the pantry* Freeze lemon or lime slices and use them as ice cubes. Karen_ 06-25-2005, 09:02 PM Mmmmm.. Thanks.. That sounds like some good iced tea. I'm going to have to try that. Step 6 might be a bit hard though by the looks of the last few weeks :P Frozen lemon and lime slices sound good too :P Cherchezlafemme 06-26-2005, 02:57 AM Well step six gives the tea a little extra brewing time. My mom likes to take out the first bags used and add like one or two bags of a rasberry flavored tea bag while it sets in the sun. It's totally optional though since you already went through one brewing Karen_ 06-26-2005, 03:01 AM Step six is the best step though lol. Just have to wait for a nice day :P I want to try it with green tea... yum. |
