View Full Version : (Need Lots of People to Answer Please) PayPal Questions
LostPuppet 06-23-2005, 02:38 AM Okay, I need donations to my site, but the only thing I know that can allow people to donate is PayPal. And since I'm only fifteen, this proves a struggle with my parental units. So, I need a lot of people to answer the following questions for me. If you do so, I'd be much obliged. I really want my own domain and better hosting, and this is the only possible way for me to get it: through donations. Eeep! Anyway, on to the questions...
1. What is PayPal?
2. Is PayPal reliable?
3. How does PayPal work?
4. Do you give out any personal information regarding your bank account number, credit card number, social security number, et cetera?
5. Does PayPal ever charge anything?
6. If no to question 5, does this mean it is free?
7. Will PayPal ever sell any of my information (like e-mail, address, name, phone #, et cetera) to Spammers, Hackers, Scammers, Sellers, or any other annoying person?
8. Have you ever used PayPal?
9. If yes to question 8, were PayPal's services efficient?
10. Is PayPal easy to use?
Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions, and sorry if they seemed a bit...odd. Much <3 to those who answer!!

Paypal is the number one online money trasferring system thing (don't know the correct term). Many people use it simply because they use eBay and it is an easy way to pay someone online for the items you've bought. Yes, you have to give up your personal information or else how would they deposit the money into your bank account? The only time you have to pay a fee is if you upgrade to accept credit card payments. Even then it's a tiny tiny fee.
1. What is PayPal?
It's like a third-party type bank. Once you've verified your bank account etc... it's like paying somebody instantly, without having to give them your bank account info... PayPay is widely respected.
2. Is PayPal reliable?
Absolutely! I had a yearly subscription to a online gaming service for one of my kids. The owner of the site tried to re-charge me for my renewal (which I cancelled 3 months before). I disputed the charge and it was reversed. I've never had a problem with them. Although - keep in mind there are a lot of people who PRETEND to be PayPal and send you email in the hopes you'll click on the link and use your login on their site... don't fall for that stuff... PayPal will never ask you to verify your info or update your account via email.
3. How does PayPal work?
You give them access to your checking account. When you purchase an item using PayPal the seller receives your payment and it's deducted from your bank account. The plus here is - that you don't have to give the seller your bank info...
4. Do you give out any personal information regarding your bank account number, credit card number, social security number, et cetera?
No to the social security number, but yes, obviously you have to give your checking account info to them, as that's where the money will come from?
5. Does PayPal ever charge anything?
No, unless you are a seller (ie; Ebay)
6. If no to question 5, does this mean it is free?
It's free as long as you are a buyer.
7. Will PayPal ever sell any of my information (like e-mail, address, name, phone #, et cetera) to Spammers, Hackers, Scammers, Sellers, or any other annoying person?
I have been a PayPal member for 5 years now and have NEVER had a problem. However, I am fairly active on Ebay and people DO troll that site to try to scam you and get you to give up your account name and password to your paypal account (see my note above)
8. Have you ever used PayPal?
Yes, see above LOL
9. If yes to question 8, were PayPal's services efficient?
I love it. They are responsive when you have a problem and I feel they are very secure.
LostPuppet 06-23-2005, 05:19 AM ^_^ Thanks you too. Now to just tell my parents all this. Lol. I'm sure they are going to be hesitant toward the bank account info, but hopefully (especially with your (Mary) testimony) they'll let me.
lefty 06-23-2005, 02:29 PM It sounds weird, letting some website have your bank account info, but paypal is very reliable (Also, make sure it's a checking account, otherwise it won't work).
If they still have a problem with it, suggest opening another bank account just for paypal - so if anything does happen, it won't mess with your entire life's savings :P

That sounds like a smart idea. I might do that. It might better my chances. ^_^
