View Full Version : Homework help...
*Jen* 06-22-2005, 01:33 PM Could someone please help me with my French homework? :)
I've only been learning French for a few months, and I need to write about my family, which is hard, because I don't have any sisters/brothers/aunts/uncles/cousins... Could somebody please correct my mistakes and help me write a closing sentence?
This is what I have so far (I couldn't find the words in blue in the dictionary):
And many thanks if anyone helps me! :)

Oh, ok, 8 months. But I hardly know anything. :P French is almost as difficult as German.
AFPrismaFreak 06-22-2005, 06:24 PM You've only been in french for 8 months and they're already teaching you verbs and stuff? And writing a giant paragraph? I guess we moved a lot slower than I thought.
Well, I think it's fine. I understood all of it with the exception of a couple words. As for nurse, I'm pretty sure it's infirmière.

So: nurse = infirmière
At the end it should be: ma grand-mère fait toujours...
the rest seems pretty good to me!
*Jen* 06-23-2005, 09:46 AM Thank you, I'll let you know how my teacher liked it. :)
*Jen* 06-23-2005, 06:31 PM She siad trés bien! :D
But I have to re-write it so that it has things like 'agressive sister', 'happy cat' etc.
salomeyasobko 06-23-2005, 07:08 PM i know you've already turned this in and your teacher appeared to have liked it.. but i noticed some mistakes that nobody pointed out.. and i think it might help you later. i bolded minor corrections that'll make it sound better..
Je suis une lycéenne. Je parle l'anglais, l'allemand et le francais. Ma famille est très petite. Je n'ai pas des frères ou des soeurs,
Ma mère a 41 ans
Mon père a 43 ans, il est un mécanicien.
Nous habitons à B. depuis 15 ans.
Mon pére et ma mére n'ont pas des frères ou des soeurs.
Mes grands-parents, les parents de ma mère, habitent à V.
and then one last thing:
the sentence "Ma grand-mére faires toujours la cuisine."
doesn't really make sense.. first of all, you used the infinitive form of "faire", so the sentence is basically saying "my grandmother always to make food".. and you added an S to faire which doesn't make sense because your grandmother is just one person, singular, so no S required.. and even so, you don't make the verb agree with the object unless you're using irregular verbs in passé composé or if they're reflexive verbs [which you'll learn about later]. so instead, you should've written:
"Ma grand-mère fait toujours le cuisine"
so there are basically only two things i'd do differently.. you aren't consistently putting articles before nouns. i could still understand what you were saying, but i think the writing would flow more and it'd sound better if you would say things like "my dad is a mechanic" and "my mom is a nurse" rather than "my dad is mechanic" and "my mom is nurse" ;)
oh and i know this is hard on the computer and you probably do it right when you're writing in class, but make sure you're using the right accents.. because if you don't, it can really change the meaning of your writing. but yeah, other than that, good job :)
*Jen* 06-23-2005, 07:36 PM Thank you, I'll bare those in mind. ;)
