I couldn't find this question anywhere, so here it is.
How do I make a div layer or table with a 50% opacity background so that you can still see the page b/g behind it but the text is easier to read because the divlayer or table looks a little lighter than the background.
PLEASE DO NOT tell me to go make a new picture for my div/table background because I know I have seen websites with this type of table/div layer on them. :dead:
Thanks in advance.

Edit: I found some of the same questions I am asking, but there are no details as how to go about putting code into my site! I need the exact code and the details on making a div layer or table with the code in it. Dreamweaver doesn't have an easy way to do this. :grouch:

Any opacities in code is not well supoorted in browsers. I strongly suggest you go out of your way and lighten up what you need on your image. It's more user friendly and doesn't risk half of the internet community not being able to see your design properly.

I agree, most, if not all of the opacity codes and scripts don't measure up to just changing the opacity of the background of the image.
If you have any graphics program that uses layers, and that you can change the opacity of, just make a new layer, and go over the area again, then fill it with white, and turn the opacity down to the desired level. I've done it, and it doesn't take long at all.

Opacity can be a tricky thing, sometimes. I always always prefer to change the imgage, not the table, unless there is no other option because, as someone else said, not all browsers can view it like you do.
I have Paint Shop Pro 9, so I am not fimiliar with any other programs, really. Search google or ask around to find out how to make things opaque, that is, if you dont know how to.
Opacity can be sometimes very frustrating...
Oh, and congrats, demented, on your new trophy! I had one once, for 5 minutes. lol.

I -did- search Google. That's how I found myself here. :confusion:
I fiddle around with codes a lot and I doubt that I'd never ever ever be able to find a way around this mess. I have done it before I can do it again. So can someone just give me a code, preferably without the prefixes that I have seen (something that starts with "m" I think). I know there's one out there b/c I've seen it before, but I just forgot where I found it. Thus, my quest on Google... thus I signed up for a forum (something that took me out of my way) I thought could offer me a code.
