I would like to host my site but I have no idea where to begin! Some of my friends use the following sites:

http://www.brinkster.com/
http://www.geocities.com/
http://order.1and1.co.uk/xml/order/Home%3Bjsessionid=66EC09012A62A1AFC51D12ED6CBF936F .TC30a
www.fansitesuk.com
http://fan-sites.org/
http://www.dreamhost.com/

Which do you think is the best and value for money? Has anyone else got any other suggestions for sites?
Thank you xxx

Well, those are a mix of free hosts and paid hosts, which are you looking for?
Once decided just do a forum search, the 'which host' question gets asked here at least once a week!

I guess it depends on the quality, at the moment I'm on a free Geocities UK account but I would like to update to a site that allows me to have some free e-mail and a .co.uk or .org domain name xx

Preferably a certain price per year? Also, what is the different between subdomains and full domains? What is better and whay are their so many?
I'm english so I would prefer an english hosting, but http://uk.geocities.com doesn't do that, its only free and I can't upgrade. Do you think it would be easier just to move over my files to www.geocities.com?

Well, there are plenty of uk hosts out there. But first, to answer your questions.
Domains are the same price per year, you purchase a domain and then purchase your hosting. Some companies allow for you to purchase your domain with your hosting.
A subdomain is a site hosted on a domain. A full domain is like lissaexplains.com.
A full domain costs money and allows so many more options, such as no ads, depending on what host you pick. A domain is better, I believe, because it's yours, easy to remember, and has few limits on what you can do with it.
There are so many for that reason of flexibility.
Geocities isn't a good host, I don't believe. There are so many better hosts out there. I hope that helps.

Thank you for your advice, I think I would want a full domain to host my site on and so that if I wanted to, I could make other websites branching off of that aswell. I would prefer to go with a more well known hosting as then I will know that it's reliable, so I thinm I'll go and do some more research now and then post back in here a few and ask advice on them - thank you xxx

the cheapest host around (that I have found) is www.exact-host.com. You get the most for your money there.
