Do want a remotely hosted one, or one to host yourself? You can go to hot-scripts.com and select the type of guestbook you want, download, and install :D

If not, and you just want an account somewhere, then some places you can get free ones are

http://www.dreambook.com
http://www.alxnet.com
http://www.bravenet.com

Sorry, the link is hotscripts.com, without the -... I haven't been there in a while :D Even if you're looking to host your book remotely, they don't only have resources to host it yourself, but they also have sources to find remotely hosted guestbooks.

http://hotscripts.com/Remotely_Hosted/Guestbooks/index.html (remotely hosted)
http://hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Guestbooks/index.html (php)

Good luck =D

what are the pros and cons of hosting a guest book your self rather than remotely hosting it?

Pros: No ads, fully customisable, fully controllable, no worries about it losing data/being shut down.
Cons: You need a proper host.

Depends on the level of your experience. There are tutorials out there though.

perhaps to start off, so you have one in place. then over time, you can get and test other scripts until you find one that really works for ya.
