Look for some kind of options/preferences menu in the programs, and in that look for a section on file types. Then just check (or uncheck) all the types you want to open in that player. In WMP it's Tools>Options>File types, it will probably be something similar to that in other programs.

I'm not too familiar with these keyboards, but I assume that there would be some place where you can edit what the keys do... Try going to the control panel and look under the keyboard to see what options you have. You might want to try going to 'set program access and defaults' to see what your default media player is set as.

If you're using XP just click the start button>all programs>set program access and defaults (should be an icon near the top). Then I think there's 2 or 3 options on part of the screen, if you click on the custom one it should open more options where you choose default browser, media player etc. I could go into more detail in that but I'm not on an XP machine right now... you could always try searching google as well for setting program defaults for XP or another OS.

it may be specific to the keyboard- I know HP provides their own software to set what the buttons on my laptop do... try looking under Programs for something that may do that.

what brand/model of keyboard is it? (it probably has the model number on the back/bottom)
