Hiya- I've followed the Instruc. on making a .htaccess file-
(to ban certain IPs from viewing a page) I do not think it is working. I've included my own IP to Test- and I get through .

Maybe I named it wrong? it's uploaded as a text file
here is the extact name it is under:
.htaccess.txt
I have it on my Main Directory..
How can I tell if it is functioning?-
Is is Named incorrectly?

Etc etc.. :)

Can anyone please help.
Thanks..

The file should just be .htaccess not .txt. Also it might not work depending on who your host is...most free hosts don't allow you to fiddle with your .htaccess. Also, I don't believe you can just add an .htaccess, you have to edit the one there (there's always one) or replace it.

Here's a page with more information.

Make sure that when you save you file (I'm assuming you're using notepad), you put quotes around the file name.

".htaccess"
