View Full Version : Why do people post thier pictures of themselfs on the internet?
pashmina_604 04-27-2005, 01:14 AM Ok I wantto pst a picture of myself and sometimes I don't feel like to. I know that its dangerous for you but some of my friends same age as me did it why do ppl do it if they know it if they know its dangerous? should i do it too?
*Christiantean* 04-27-2005, 01:54 AM Some people do it so the people they talk w/ get an idea of who they are talking to, or just do it for fun. It is somewhat dangerous, but its not TOO likely that someones going to at all costs to try to get you.
Should you do it? Well, if you are younger, you may need to ask your parents. If they care, then don't post it.
Why do you REALY want to post your picture? If its not that important, then there realy isn't much point in posting it!
Dude128 04-27-2005, 02:20 AM it is probably pretty unlikely that someone will use it to identify you for any bad purpose, but it is a posssibility.
I've learned that people shouldn't have ANY pictures of themself anywhere on the Internet if they're going up against a friend of mine in the game Assassins (you're given the name of someone else and have to "kill" them with a rolled up sock or a ball of paper, other weird things, but someone's always after you, last person "alive" wins)- recently the engineering floors of my dorm had an Assassins competition and he played- he went to great lengths to identify people. looked them up on thefacebook to fine pictures/room/classes/screen name, anything he could use to stalk them. it took him a while, but he managed to find a picture of a girl he was after on her xanga by looking the address up, found a list of classes, went through the class schedule to see if he could determine what sections she was in and where they were, etc.
so it could come back to haunt you- in a game, or if someone really does want to do something to you. just keep that in mind.
maztrin 04-28-2005, 10:19 AM i cant put a pic of myself on the net, i dont want people to see what i like look. i mean i can barely stand to look at myself, so why would i want people to see me.
i dont understand how people can do it...all my freinds do it, i swaer they are mad!
Monkey Bizzle 04-28-2005, 10:58 AM I used to have pics of me on my site. I took them down because some people have nothing better to do with their time than insult the way others look. I know that I am not ugly but I got sick of immature kids who were mad about something irrelevant leaving me comments about the way I look... why do people always attack your looks? Is it because they know you are right about whatever they were originally mad about but they sill feel the need to insult you somehow? It's not worth my time getting mad about so I just got rid of my pics all together.
Sphere 04-28-2005, 12:10 PM I do have pics online but not in an open dir.. I rarely give my picture out though..
reddragon8 04-28-2005, 04:39 PM well...... why not? [ok people.... don't answer that -__-" lol]

lefty 04-28-2005, 05:36 PM Because I take really good pictures :P (okay, not really)
I don't know why I post pictures of myself. It just seems like anything else to me, and I don't see it as a big deal.
Pink4eva 04-28-2005, 06:46 PM I dont see nothing wrong with it.
I always post my pcture :D
you never know, some one famous might see me :P
Chris 04-28-2005, 07:30 PM I've put made a section on my site, full of pics my friends :)
but none of me :P
I hope you asked for their permission....
Shirl 04-28-2005, 07:44 PM I like posting pictures of myself on my personal site, it lets people get to know me better and if they dont like the way I look, who cares? I like me, and I dont care what some loser says about me. ;)
Monkey Bizzle 04-28-2005, 07:51 PM I like me, and I dont care what some loser says about me. ;)
but it gets old after awhile... I know I'm not ugly but being the person that I am, it ^^^^es me off when people insult me for no reason at all... Rather than get mad, I just rather not deal with it.
coolone 04-28-2005, 08:06 PM some ppl just want praises if they noe they r pretty :p
Shirl 04-28-2005, 08:23 PM but it gets old after awhile... I know I'm not ugly but being the person that I am, it ^^^^es me off when people insult me for no reason at all... Rather than get mad, I just rather not deal with it.
Yeah, I guess you could say I'm kinda immune to that stuff now that I've taken so much of it over the years from idiots. :D
Patrick 04-28-2005, 09:02 PM I'll post pictures of my dogs and cats that I took (because I can take really good photos if I want like no advertising) on my website... never of me, though.
Chris 04-28-2005, 09:28 PM (because I can take really good photos if I want like no advertising)
I thought you said good photos? :P Just kidding.
MaGiCSuN 04-28-2005, 09:41 PM lol, i don't see it as a big of a deal .. not of my own pictures and not of my friends ... they all have these online profiles so the pictures are already online .. ah well :P
I don't see the dangerous side of it ... but maybe if you're younger it's an opinion on that subject :)
nah i like to see who i'm talking too.. but on the other side i sometimes also regret asking for a picture after seeing it :P
Not that looks matter, but you often have this "picture" in your mind of that person you've chatted with. And then when you see his/her real picture it's nothing like you imagined but the whole other side of it.
Luzee12 04-28-2005, 10:14 PM I'll post pictures of my dogs and cats that I took (because I can take really good photos if I want like this (http://img.plbeane94.com/fluffy_32505.JPG)) on my website... never of me, though.
I love that picture! It looks kind of fuzzy, like digitally painted art, or like the subject is glowing. I really like it. Good job.
Patrick 04-28-2005, 10:17 PM Thanks! Believe it or not, I actually didn't edit it at all, I just took it with an Olympus Digital Camera C-700 I think... The model is quite pricey though... $575-700...
Patrick 04-29-2005, 01:27 AM These are nice! Get to your local CVS to pick these up if your a collector!

AiJahya 04-29-2005, 01:44 AM I've posted pics of myself before, and I've never really given it a second thought. If some one wanted to find you, I guess they could. I don't think it's one of the most dangerous things you can do. *shrugs* I guess it's a matter of personal opinion.
Mabs22 04-29-2005, 02:28 AM Photography is my thing, I take pictures of myself all the time so yeah they're on the net. I haven't had a problem personally other than a few snide remarks but you're always going to find people who are critical or just plain mean. If you're younger i'd be more careful and less likely to put em up but since I'm older and don't tend to meet people from the net or give out personal info to people I don't know I feel pretty safe. There is still the chance that something could happen because i'm taking a risk. So be careful and don't hand out your personal info just because someone likes your pic. Thats the best advice I can give.
Monkey Bizzle 04-29-2005, 04:52 AM These are nice! Get to your local CVS to pick these up if your a collector! here (http://img.plbeane94.com/P1010016.gif) sorry but what does red sox coke bottles have to do with posting pictures of yourself online LOL!
Most people now a days have their own domain names and you can find someone's personal info by looking up their who-is info about their domain. Most people don't KNOW that you can do that so when they buy their domain, they put in all their real info. So if I was a sick-o and I went to someone's site and thought they were hot, I could probably get their address by looking up thier domain info.
GameDesigner 04-29-2005, 06:33 AM I've put mine on before, but I won't give out personal information (address, phone, etc) unless I'm buying a CD from YesAsia.com (Not eBay, they can die) or when I'm talking to really close friends.
Patrick 04-29-2005, 10:36 PM sorry but what does red sox coke bottles have to do with posting pictures of yourself online LOL!
They're cool so I decided to share them!
Posting pics is fun, especially amongst your friends. Doing so should also be a private matter. Don't go off making a site about yourself, listing your location and phone number, then publishing it to the public or anything like that. :P
