I need a really sad song for a play we have to do. At the end of the play, two of the characters end up dying (drug related deaths). Anyone have any suggestions? I get bonus points if people in the audience cry. I doubt that will happen though lol.
I was thinking about usine the song Windmills by Toad the Wet Sprocket, but I don't think it sounds sad enough.

So, for those of you who don't want to read my whole post, here's the question: In your oppinion, what is the saddest song ever. Thanks :P

I think Theif by Our Lady Peace is really sad.

Last Kiss... one of the few songs that's actually ever made me sort of cry. I agree with OLP and Theif too

"Who wants to live forever" by Queen is kind of sad, and "Mad World" by Gary Jules is very sad - don't play it if you're taking a bath with a razor nearby.
And another one that always makes me feel a bit melancholic is "The Road to Mandalay" by Robbie Williams.

I like either Adagio for Strings or Agnus Dei (Samuel Barber), but I don't think they're really songs, are they?

Eeh.....there's this really sad song, about a guy who thinks a girl loves him but really she loves another guy....but I can't remember the name...I think it's called "Diary" by Bread. Rather old fashioned, but the tune is nice.

Seasons in the Sun
by
Terry Jacks

Goodbye to you my trusted friend
We've known each other since we were nine or ten
Together we climbed hills and trees
Learned of love and A B C's
Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.

Goodbye my friend it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Pretty girls are everywhere
Think of me and I'll be there

We had joy we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed were just seasons
Out of time......

Goodbye Papa please pray for me
I was the black sheep of the family
You tried to teach me right from wrong
Too much wine and too much song
Wonder how I got along.

Goodbye Papa its hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Little children everywhere
When you see them I'll be there.

We had joy we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons
Have all gone.

We had joy we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons
Have all gone.

Goodbye Michelle my little one
You gave me love and helped me find the sun
And every time that I was down
You would always come around
And get my feet back on the ground.

Goodbye Michelle it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
With the flowers everywhere
I wish that we could both be there

We had joy we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the stars we could reach
Were just starfish on the beach

We had joy we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the stars we could reach
Were just starfish on the beach

We had joy we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons
Have all gone

All our lives we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed were just seasons
Out of time......

We had joy we had fun
We had seasons in the sun

I think there are parts of Mozart's Requiem that you could use. (But I still like Barber's stuff...)*cough*

"Glass In The Trees"

By dead poetic

but, it is only sad if you know the meaning behind it.

It is about these two kids who get drunk at a party and they end up dying by driving and hitting a tree. When they hit the tree the front window smashed and sent glass up into the branches... so every morning when the light would reflect against the glass... it was like a huge memorial to what happened that night... so they cut down the trees.

It doesn't say anything specific about drinking... so it could be related to drugs.
