View Full Version : Completely Clueless
Chocolate_Luver 04-17-2005, 11:13 PM I am soooo clueless now, I need someone to teach me HTML in depth, so that I understand what everything is and WHY the codes are the way they are, so if someone will help me, I will help them with something (if I can)
Thank You sooooooo Much
Chocolate_Luver 04-17-2005, 11:16 PM Also, How do you have an icon on here??
basketball234 04-17-2005, 11:33 PM u have to get 500 posts to get an avatar :)
Valkyrie 04-17-2005, 11:34 PM I suggest reading through all of Lissa's site, and if you still have questions, ask here. :)
And to get an avatar, you need 500 posts.
Chocolate_Luver 04-17-2005, 11:59 PM I'm still really confuzed, because I don't know WHY the HTML code are how they are, and I don't understand what iFrames are, or what CSS is, or anthing!!
Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 12:07 AM Wait, 500 post as in I post 500 times, or like, there have to be 500 posts all together on my threads?
Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 12:11 AM Wait, 500 post as in I post 500 times, or like, there have to be 500 posts all together on my threads?
Will ANYONE answer me???
Munchkin 04-18-2005, 12:20 AM ^ Please don't expect an answer in five minutes. This is a forum, not a chat room. It takes a little time.
To answer your question, you see where it says "posts"? That is where the forum counts how many posts you have made. When you have reached 500, as a kind of reward you are allowed to have an avatar. These are posts YOU have made. (Oh yes, and please do not speed-post or nonsense posting :P...and posts in the fiction section don't count.)
I'm still really confuzed, because I don't know WHY the HTML code are how they are, and I don't understand what iFrames are, or what CSS is, or anthing!!
Like Valkyrie said, why don't you spend a little time reading through Lissa's site? She explains it all (:hehe: )! HTML is a computer language, and asking why it is is like asking why English is how it is. :P
Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 12:31 AM You guys don't get it though.....
I HAVE read throught the site, and she doesn't explain WHAT iFrames and CSS ARE, she just gives the codes for them, which doesn't help me because of the way my site is. My Site (http://www.neostarlight.bravehost.com/)
tokyo bleu 04-18-2005, 12:50 AM That's why search engines exist.
You could search for "CSS tutorials", "iframe tutorials", "what is CSS", "what are iframes". It's not that hard if a certain Web site doesn't have the answer you're looking for -- just look for it somewhere else.
http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp
And Lissa does explain what CSS is. Otherwise, I wouldn't be seeing the "What is CSS?" question being answered in the CSS section.
Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 12:56 AM I know that that is what search engines are for, but, I never find what I want to find when I use a search engine, so I figured that SOMEBODY here would be NICE enough to help. And, that "What is CSS?" still just confuses me.
Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 01:01 AM and like, that link DID NOT HELP ME
it only confuzed me even more!!
tokyo bleu 04-18-2005, 01:07 AM We would be able to help you further if you actually specified what you didn't understand. You said that Lissa's "What is CSS?" answer did not help you in an in-depth manner, so which part are you confused with? CSS is an extremely broad subject.
Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 01:12 AM i am confuzed about all of css!!!
-what is is and what does it do
-can i use css on my site?
-if i can't use it on my my site, where is a free hosting site were i can use it
-what is cool about it
-can u make your own codes for it
-i want to see an example of it
tokyo bleu 04-18-2005, 01:20 AM -can i use css on my site?
Yes, you can use CSS on your Web site. There are tons of free hosts who do support it. Bravehost should probably support it -- it doesn't hurt to try.
-what is is and what does it do
CSS = Cascading Style Sheets. Lissa already covered the surface of what CSS can do in her CSS section... "Cascading style sheets are used to change properties like font face, size, font in tables, scrollbar color, link color and hover color, and other style attributes on Web sites, without having to use long HTML codes."
-i want to see an example of it
http://cssvault.com (Web sites designed in CSS).
-what is cool about it
With CSS, changing certain style elements are easier and more versatile than using HTML all the time.
Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 01:32 AM i'm sorry that i'm asking so much but...
-can u dumb the last one down a little, i'm a blonde, 13 year old girl

Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 01:39 AM hey!!
i have a buddy!!!
mixofall 04-18-2005, 01:48 AM hi chocolate_lover,
we're in the same room now!
kittycat 04-18-2005, 01:52 AM "What does it do" is basically the first paragraph of Lissa's CSS section. You aren't going to get much more basic than that, since this site is geared toward children. If you don't get it the first read, read it again, look through the rest of the page, try some examples and see how it works.
The best thing to do is probably to start at the very beginning with just the basic HTML, and learn how to change colours/fonts/the looks of your site that way. If you can understand that, then if you look at CSS it may start to make more sense to you.

i have done that, but the thing is, i need an in-depth explanation of it, and you just sed yourself that it was basic, sooo, ya
tokyo bleu 04-18-2005, 02:43 AM I linked to W3Schools' CSS section in one of my earlier posts.
http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_intro.asp
You said it was confusing, but did you look at the introduction? It's in-depth -- what you're looking for. It is very difficult to answer a request for depth of a Web language. You need to learn by testing it out yourself. Use basic CSS codes and see what it does.
Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 02:49 AM ok
Chocolate_Luver 04-18-2005, 02:55 AM one fast question b4 i try it, what is an attribute
tokyo bleu 04-18-2005, 03:01 AM It's a property of a tag... like "font-weight" or "color".
