View Full Version : Blogger + Haloscan, I am beyond confused.
Soyokaze 04-10-2005, 12:37 AM I'm trying to incorperate a blog into an iframe on my site. Unfortunately I'm a first time blogger. I own a doman and I'm having a LOT of trouble trying to get my blog to work. I've signed up for BLOGGER and the page looks fine in the preview.
Unfortunately I"m really confused b/c I would like to host my blog. But it needs to already be hosted to host it. O_O It asks to link to where the blog is displayed. Now, that confuses the ^^^^ out of me.
I want to use blogger because then I can include an archive of my posts.
Some pls help, this is ridiculous and none of the Blogger FAQ makes any sense.
tokyo bleu 04-10-2005, 02:05 AM Have you considered other blogging systems? You mentioned you owned a domain, so it might be more easier if you used blogging systems meant for actual domains, such as WordPress (http://wordpress.org). WordPress is really similiar to Blogger, has an implemented commenting system, and archives as well, if I'm not mistaken.
Spirit892 04-10-2005, 01:44 PM If you wanted, I could do a wordpress install for you, (free, of course). PM me if you are interested. :)
Or if you are still interested in blogger, just post here and I am sure we can help you. :)

your post doesn't make any sense really either... First of all, where does Haloscan fall into this question, and what is asking you to link to where the blog is displayed?

Ok, If I wanted to FTP my blog onto my server, it says to type in the URL where my blgo can be viewed. But how can it be viewed if it is no hosted?
Haloscan is what I'm using for comments. The only reason I'm using Blogger is so I can have an archive.
And how does bloging work, does each post get automatically archived or do I have to do it manually? And what about posting, do I post on my own or do I post thorugh the Blogger website?
Spirit892 04-11-2005, 07:52 PM You type in the url you WANT the blog to be at. Say you wanted your blog at http://yoursite.com/blog.php, that's what you would type in. If you want it at http://yoursite.com/(somethingelse), you type in http://yoursite.com/FiLENAME.EXTENSION
Your posts automatically archive. You post through the blogger website.
I suggest going to http://www.quasigeek.net/users/rewritable/blogger.php
It's a really great tutorial on setting up blogger to ftp to your site. :) Hope that helps.
EDIT:
I just checked your website through your profile and it is on geocities. Geocities doesn't allow ftp, so if that is the website you were planning to have your blog on, it won't work with ftp.

No no, that site isn't the one I'm putting my blog on. I just bought a domain.
Well, what I did was got Wordpress instead. I used index.php for my entire layout and iframed wp.php (which is the actual blogs), the problem is that now my archives.php page doesn't work. *dies*
Spirit892 04-12-2005, 02:07 AM What's wrong with it? Can you post the code and the error?

I'm just using the default template that Wordpress offers and it gives me this when I view the webpage.
Under archive.php i get:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_header() in /home/igloef7/public_html/wp-content/themes/default/archive.php on line 1
Under archives.php i get:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_header() in /home/igloef7/public_html/wp-content/themes/default/archives.php on line 7
Remember, these are the default codes Wordpress provides. I'm not interested in any other features. I just want a blog + archive and a commenting system (and I"m using Haloscan for that).

Oh great, now it says I"m forbidden to view the login page for Wordpress. How can i blog? Jesus.
