The pope is not in very good health today. I watched CNN and logged on to http://www.cnn.com for the latest minute-by-minute details about his health.

(as of this posting from CNN.com main page)
Vatican: Pope has fever, still responsive
DEVELOPING STORY
Pope John Paul II has developed a high fever and remains in a very serious condition, but is responding to his aides, the Vatican announced today. "When addressed by members of his household, he responds correctly," the statement said.

He's probably gonna die today, tomorrow...or sometime this week. Everytime I open Firefox (Yahoo! is my homepage), Yahoo! has this big thing about the Pope. "Pope getting worse" ...ect. It's kinda sad, though.

Who becomes Pope after him?

Who becomes Pope after him?

I saw on CNN (tv not internet) that there are 3 possible choices. Don't ask me who they are, though. Am trying to find something on the net.

They're elected from a council of high Cardinals or something, I heard on the news just a bit ago.

Pretty sad, though. The news cameras has been at the church a block away since around 11 last night, I think they're waiting for the news that he's passed so they can be first-on-scene in my town.

Just on TV right now, the Vatican has said that Pope John Paul II has died. :(

It's amazing, when they show St. Peter's Square, how many people have traveled there to pray for him. It's just so awe inspiring, that kind of faith.

Yup...he just died. They have two giant articles on him on Yahoo!. Supposidly he died 4 minutes ago...or something like that.

He was the first non-Italian pope in 455 years...
I just read that xD;

RW >> Fox News reported that the Pope had died before he actually died.. pretty bad screw-up, huh :|

What an amazing man, even for those who aren't religious.

I think the next pope should be black. Or a woman.
But I probably won't see a non-male or non-white pope in my lifetime...

I know that the stuff about the pope might be a big deal to some people, but it seems to be on the news a bit too much. People get ill and die all the time... Sorry if that's a bit too harsh.

I think it would be cool if the next pope was female. But it doubt it will be... Christian-ness is quite ^^^ist. Some denominations are only allowed male priests and stuff. And all the major people in the Bible (except like Mary) were male. And most people believe God is male.

They were actually talking on the news about the three people who are most likely to become Pope next, and one of them is black. He's the head cardinal of Nigeria or something. They said sooner or later we're going to have more diversity in the Popehood (is that a word?) because a large percentage of Catholics are not in Europe or America, but in places like South/Central America and Africa.

Poor man. Of course, he's been in pretty bad shape for the last few years, what with Parkinson's and everything.

I'm catholic, and in my church today, they had an amazing homily (sermon) about death, and embracing death. They used the pope as an example because he was totally ready to die. He was embracing his death, so he went home to die, rather than stay in the hospital, using medical technology to cling on to his last shred of life. What an amazing man. I'm sure catholics everywhere are mourning his passing. I know my church is holding a memorial service for him this afternoon. He was a good leader, and we shall all miss him.

Funny, is it me, or do others feel too, that it seems all over the world this pope was very popular and considered a very good person for the job - except in the Netherlands. I guess we're too liberal - or he was not liberal enough - but here on the news you just hear people saying: "I hope the next one will be more progressive" etc., he wasn't appreciated much here, only 19% of the Dutch population says they are sorry he is gone.

He was a very brave man. I am not very religious but I have a lot of respect towards the Pope, he had good ideals for the future...

Well, for the most part, the Catholic Church really hasn't budged on any issue since...1564. I can't say I agree with many of his ideas (or those of the religious establishment which he represented), but, sure. There'd never be a female pope-women aren't even allowed into the church hierarchy because, for a reason unbeknownst to me, they're convinced that women are evil...
And I doubt we're going to get any sort of progressive pope, given that they're chosen by a bunch of old men.

Yeah I was wondering that. I mean, everyone's saying how great he was and everything, and I'm sitting at home going "ahem, he was against ^^^^^^^uality and giving condoms to people in Africa so they wouldn't get AIDS." He doesn't seem like such a great guy to me in that respect.

But then again, he gave many people hope and faith and for that he earns my respect.

There will be a funeral at 10:00 CEST (08:00 GMT) (4:00am EDT) Friday 2005-04-08 for the late Pope John Paul II.

This has postponed a British royal wedding for Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles until Saturday 2005-04-09.

I feel sad that the Pope has died. He was a good example in most cases.
Just a note though. Why such big text, rw6200? It hurts my eyes and I'm sure it's annoying to others as well.

I really have no opinion of the pope either way, but I just can't help but wonder if he's found what he's dedicated his life towards.

The prom committee at my school has organised a bet to raise money, betting on who the next pope is going to be. Is it just me or does this seem horribly wrong? To me it essentially seems like they're taking his death to their advantage, to gain money off it. (and this is a Catholic school....)

it's like my boss, the second day in my new job I was told my granddad had had two serious strokes and was not expected to live till the end of the week, so I told my boss about the situation. Then a few days later, I told my boss I needed the next day off to attend my granddad's funeral, and he said: "So did he die then?"
At this point, I was just so relieved that granddad was no longer suffering, the tears came later, but I wasn't sad (yet), and I nearly answered: "No, in my family we bury them alive" but just in time I managed to re-phrase that to: "People usually are, when they are burried".
My boss seemed to feel a little stupid for asking.
