There isn't really such a thing as a free domain.

You could try http://www.lifelesspeople.com/ though.

By the way, some domain hosts do allow payments by check or money orders.

You could try getting hosted by someone....try www.pick-me.net

or www.freedomsnet.net which I think is much better :)
and http://www.free-domaine.net/en/ is a place to get free domain names if you qualify :/
