Heya :)

I'm having a bit of a problem with PSDs... I really like the idea of using them for layouts etc but I can't figure it out.... when I unzip them then click on the image names it comes up with an error. Do they use a specific program like Photoshop Design or Photoshop paint? Please help!

From a PSD n00b....Jess.

PSD's are meant to use for your layout. Not as an image, but as a photoshop document. PSD's are often made so that people can download them open them up in Photoshop and have their celebrity image for example WITHOUT a background so that they can paste it onto their layout.

Everyone can get a .jpg file, but then you still have to cut the person out or something and it takes allot of time. So that's why people make PSD's (wich is nothing special btw, it's just a photoshop document so that the layers are still there (with JPG or GIF the image get flatten)) for other's to download, so that those can have their favorite image on their layout without having to spend hours on cutting it out :)

and to answer your question: yes you need photoshop. PSD's are ready made images, they are documents with images in them that you can use to MAKE a layout (often without a background, that's the whole purpose of those online PSD's really).

For paintshoppro you have .psp files, for photoshop you have .psd files
those are the default file format for the program, and all layers will still be available after saving :)

Mirna
