Hi,

Every time I try to open GIMP 2.0 that error message comes up saying 'This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down'. I've tried removing the program from my computer and resinstalling it 3 times but it's still not working for me. Every time I click on the icon to open the program the message comes up right away, before the program can even open up. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone help me?

Thanks :)

What version of Windows do you have?

Yes, I had the same problem and I never could get it to work, because I use Win98 and GIMP 2.0 isn't supported by Win98.

Hi, rather than create a new thread I thought I'd just continue with this one. I've given up on GIMP but I downloaded PhotoPlus 6.0...but as files save as .Spp files, I can't upload them. Anyone know how to convert .Spp files to a .jpeg or .gif or something? It's probably really simple like but I can't do it, hehe.

EDIT: I have Win98 also...after the above question, are there any lower versions available to Win98 users?

instead of File > Save, go to File > Export :P

Lol, thanks very much...I'm not that good at computers when it comes to stuff like that. I thought it would have been really difficult, thanks v. much :)

Yes (http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/old.html), there's GIMP 1.2.5. (The other version on that page requires a GTK+ version that doesn't support Win9x; I think anything requiring GTK+ 2.4.0 or newer won't support Win9x.)

Ha! No wonder... I was getting the same message. More technically, that particular message is the Windows 95/98 "Illegal Operation" dialog box. So I have to spend my well earned dollars on Windows 2000 if I want the new version?
