View Full Version : Problem with Geocities HTML Editor
Miette 05-13-2003, 10:00 PM ok, here's my problem. I'm using Geocities HTML Editor, and it was going pretty well, when all of a sudden, yesterday, it didn't allow me to save my page. It kept saying I/O Error. I can't save anything. I tried with an old account I also have and this one did let me, so I don't know what the problem can be.
Does any of you have any idea of what's going on and what can I do?
Thanks
StarletEireann 05-14-2003, 12:08 AM It could have only been something wrong with the Geocities server. If there was a lot of work you needed to save, then just copy it to somewhere and try refreshing the page or just coming back later. I use geocities too, and it's never done that to me. I'm guessing it was just the server. Hope that helped any!
Jonathon 05-14-2003, 06:42 AM I use Geocities, and used to use the online editor too, but then realised that using Notepad is a lot better - you can create the entire website offline! And plus, it hardly ever goes down, and if it does, then Microsoft can give you support.
Miette 05-14-2003, 08:26 AM Thanks! The only thing why I'm using Geocities Editor is because I'm just starting and I kinda "need" to preview what I'm doing very often :)
I saved everything what I can't save in Geocities to Notepad. I think I'll give it a chance, although I should learn to use FTP first ;)
Thanks!
1. yes, you may want to use Notepad to do your pages offline then upload them when finished.
2. you can preview your pages offline easily. after saving the file as "whatever.html" you can then double click on the file and your browser will open for you to view the page.
3. geocities has an "easy upload" feature to get your files online if you don't want to use ftp right away.
Jonathon 05-14-2003, 03:36 PM Yeah, I use Easy Upload, as it says in the name, it's easy!
Miette 05-14-2003, 07:37 PM ok, I told you I was so slow with this, I use Easy Upload often, you know, to upload pics and so, but I never realized I could upload also the pages themselves!!! Am I dumb or what? lol
Thanks guys, you've been so helpful ;)
Jonathon 05-14-2003, 07:47 PM Lol, no problem ;-)
StarletEireann 05-14-2003, 08:45 PM Lol, I was so like you for a long while when I first started using Geocities, Miette. Then one day I just happened to realize that I could upload HTML files. Sometimes I wonder if I was meant to be blonde.
designhazard 05-14-2003, 11:41 PM i think you didn't install java from sun microsystem(sun.com (http://www.sun.com)
Miette 05-15-2003, 12:25 AM I did install it, actually, but thanks anyway. It's all solved now. But, don't worry, I'll be back with new problems, I can tell :)
Dude128 05-15-2003, 12:42 AM another good thing about creating and previewing the pages offline is that you aren't using your bandwidth for previewing. of course, unless you preview A LOT you wouldn't use that much, but still... :)
Felicity... 05-15-2003, 05:01 AM i find it easier to make make my layouts in fire works mx and do the html bit in dreamweaver mx it lets you see and edit the picture but change the code as well
Miette 05-15-2003, 08:42 AM Oh, yeah, my cousin told me about dreamweaver. I might give it a chance, but by the moment I'll go on with notepad. I still mess everything up with it, so I don't wanna make it more difficult lol
tayjalee 05-15-2003, 10:59 AM i've been using geocities for like ever and it does stuff like that to me alot too... heck just yesturday for over an hour it kept telling me invalid password, 3 times i used the retreive new password form and it wouldnt accept those passwords either... i'm not sure what it is with geocities, but some times you just have to close it and clean out your temp internet files then go back in and it works like a charm again for a while., its very wise when using it to remember to save often... that way if you been working on it for like two hours and it decides its gunna stick its tounge out at ya and say nananana you wont loose everything you spent 2 hours doing. lol of corse i still forget to take that lil bit of advice myself sumtimes. :)
