my site usually looks fine in 800 x 600 settings but i got a new monitor and the settings are now 1024 x 768. here's my site: www.harmonyanime.com. The page stretches out with the new setting, is there a code to push everything to the left so like the right sidebar at least isn't way to the right? or is there another solution to make the site look better?

i'm running 1024 on my system and your page looks fine maximized in IE which is the browser i ususaly use (ur top image is off center the rest is fine) but i would suggest possibly changing the width size of our site might help.

or put the whole stuff into ONE table like this:

<table border=0 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 width="#">
<tr><td valign="top">your WHOLE layout in here</td></tr></table>

then fill in the WIDTH and everything will be fine in every browser. it will nicely stick together like it should be

btw you are not stuck with 1024x768 just so you know. ;) you can easily change it in the "monitor settings" in the configuration screen. Not that i say 800x600 is better! nope, not at all. I use 800x600 myself but for layouts i always switch to 1024x769 to make it look good in that too. Really handy!

Heh, it looks even worse in 1200x1800. How can you use 800x600? I don't understand you!

my monitor is set at 1280x1024 ;)
new monitors are set at 1024x768 'cos it's becoming the new standard now. 800x600 is concidered minimum requirements. i guess it depends on how big your monitor is.

it depends on what you started with probably as that usually sticks to being "normal". it happens to be my preference even though i am able to set my monitor higher.

plus... from what i hear, many people using the higher res don't have the window maximized while surfing, so the outcome may still come out to be closer to 800x600 again.

as for the question at hand, try your best with the res of your choice. if you can find out what most of your visitors are using, then go by that. if you are using a table or frames layout, percentages may be used for the width values may help.

*nods* We have 1280x1024 at school and rarely is the window open full-screen, it gives me a headache.

it really depends on monitor size, too. I agree, 800x600 would be for people that can't see any more if it was used on a 21" monitor. but on smaller monitors, it's more appropriate. at my school, for instance, i believe there are 15" or maybe even 14" monitors, and I think they use 800x600, and it's fine.
