View Full Version : Cellphones
Dutch.American 02-24-2005, 04:19 PM What do you think about cellphones?
A modern marvel or bad distraction?
I was just curious because although I have one I don't use it very often.
And even when I do. I text rather then actually talk.
A modern marvel or bad distraction?
both.
i like the ideal and usefulness,
i hate people who use it while driving or in places where they become distracting to others.
Dude128 02-24-2005, 05:34 PM I have one, but only usually use it to talk to my parents because it's cheaper than using the phone line in my dorm room. I also have late classes 3 nights a week, and i like having a phone on me walking back to my dorm room. just in case something should happen, I wouldn't want to rely on the emergency phones that the school has.
I don't mind other people using them unless they're being waited on in a store, or in an elevator or something. I can't stand it when I'm going to my room and I'm stuck a foot and a half away from someone talking about something- anything- that I don't want to hear about. It also strikes me as rather rude when I see people in line somewhere or worse, being waited on, with the phone still glued to their ear. at LEAST tell the person to hold on a minute while you get rung up. it can't be THAT important that they can't wait while the cashier rings up your food.
lefty 02-24-2005, 05:39 PM I cannot stand when I'm ringing up someone's order in the grocery store and they're standing there jammering away, and I don't want to interrupt to tell them how much they owe me so they just stand there and stare at me while they're telling whoever they're talking to that they're standing in line and they'll be home soon. [/rant]
I like the idea of cellphones, just don't be an idiot about it.
HisakataWarabe 02-24-2005, 06:15 PM i wish i had one cuz i can think of many times wen it was important... hmmmm but now that i have a job i think ima buy myself one
webgirl 02-24-2005, 07:03 PM Cellphones are both good & bad IMO. The're handy, good for calls who'd miss without a cell, tradgeys etc. But when people use them while they're driving etc then it's not safe,it's impolight when your talking to someone but start talking on your cell. The bad can be avoded, people only choose to be like that. Over all cellphones are good, people are just using in the wrong ways.
Dutch.American 02-24-2005, 07:04 PM both.

I feel the same way.
I read somewhere that when you are using a cellphone and driving it's the same as having a certain alcoholic level.
Kinda scary if you think about it.
kittycat 02-24-2005, 07:48 PM I don't have one, I don't think I like the idea of people being able to potentially contact me anywhere. I actually find them kind of annoying with all the silly ringtones, especially when one goes off an no one answers... so it just keeps ringing over and over...
lefty 02-24-2005, 08:28 PM I hate ringtones in general. Mine's set to a normal-sounding ring. :P
AiJahya 02-25-2005, 02:10 AM I don't have a cellphone. I want one, but we don't get reception out here in the boondocks. :P
Other people's cellphones annoy me to no end, though... EVERYONE down here drives while talking on their cellphone. I can't count how many times I've almost gotten hit by some one talking on their cellphone and driving at the same time.
Karen_ 02-25-2005, 03:31 PM Using a cell phone and driving is one of my biggest pet peeves. My friends know not to call me when they're driving because I'd hang up on them :P
I wish I never got a cell phone, because now I can't go a day without it.
flinchalot 02-25-2005, 05:04 PM I've got a mobile, which I think is the exact same as cell phones in america.
In the UK, driving while using a mobile is illegal. they are usfull though, but we're not allowed them in school unfortunately.
Frodo's Girl 02-27-2005, 05:15 AM I only got one recently. My friends always were begging me to get one b/c if I wasn't at home they couldn't get hold of me. It is a lot more convenient now.

they r great... where wud we be without them? how many lies wud of been lost? there greeeeaaaatttt!
Owlie42 02-27-2005, 06:59 PM I have one (with a Monty Python's Flying Circus ringtone). :hehe: It's nice that I can call my parents to come pick me up, and they don't have to wait in the parking lot (which is good for them, because my rehearsals tend to run long). They're also useful to have in an emergency. But I hate it when people drive while talking on their phones.
