Classical is ok, I prefer Emo/indie/alternative.

I like Simon and Garfunkel, a big band in the 60's. They are awesome, I hope I can see them live before they die...

Classical, but then, you have to if you're in orchestra. Celtic's good (I want Celtic fiddle music for viola, but no one writes it), some rock, J-pop (some), j-rock (some) , and who-knows-what-else.

That pretty much sums it up for me.

I'm sick of hearing the same old rock, rap, etc.
And classical is...well...classical.

*sings* It's indie rock & roll for me :music2:

You despise Beethoven?! *gasps*

Classical music...composer-wise, my favorites (in no particular order) are:
Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky (I hate playing his music, but I love listening to it), Handel, Telemann and Bartok (they wrote viola concertos, I have to love them...). Individual pieces: Winter and Autumn from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons (they aren't played nearly often enough), Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings...and more. I'm working on an essay at the moment..

Yes, I despise Beethoven. ;) Evil me. About the only piece I can think of that I actually like by Beethoven is his Minuet in G. "La dee da dee da dee da dee da..."

My fave composers: Rachmoninov, Gerswhin (oh, I looove his preludes), Bach, Chopin (playing it I'm not a big fan of, but I do love the way it sounds), some of Grieg, Debussy (his children's suite is wonderful). I love the Fantasy on the Wizard of Oz by William Hertz and some of Handel's stuff as well.

As for what I'm working on: Bach's Prelude C Minor, Debussy's Golliwog's Cakewalk (ALMOST done with that...four hard months of work! :D), and some of the vocal selections from the Sound of Music.

I can't wait to get my braces off so I can play flute again...

Played the viola arrangement of that in... 8th grade. Haha.

Apart from the fact that I haven't taken my poor instrument out of its case in months, apart from at lessons and orchestra-related stuff, I would be working on Bach's viola da gamba sonatas, and Jay Ungar's Ashokan Farewell (from Ken Burns' The Civil War). It's actually for the violin, but I've been playing anyway. Never mind that I always miss the high notes...

^ I'm going to ask a stupid question... How does the Viola's note system work? I've seen music written for the Viola, or at least arranged for it, before. I couldn't read it. :P Is it written for a certain key, or is it written the same as violin...or am I just an idiot?

We have our own clef. (We're special!) Here's (http://www.geocities.com/songoku_is_mine/clef.html) our staff. It's written the same as for violin, but given that it's tuned a fifth lower, anything for violin that's rearranged for a viola is a fifth lower. So if it was in D major, it would have to be in G major for us.
