English is my native tongue & I'm learning Spanish at school.

It's pretty frustrating considering the fact that my Spanish teacher can hardly speak english.

Why are you called Dutch.American if you don't even speak Dutch then?

Dutch is my native language, I mostly use English for online use only these days.
I get by in German and French if I have to.

English, obviously. I'm learning Spanish, and I know a little Japanese. Given a dictionary, I could probably hack my way through a sentence in French too.

Portuguese is my mother tongue, but I studied English from 8 to 18 years of age, and now I'm in my second year of French. I do understand Spanish and Castellano, because it's really similar to Portuguese. I can also read in Italian, but then my skills are really limited in that language, hehe!

English is my first language also, and I can speak fairly good Spanish. But I gotta say, those of you whose native language is not english speak MUCH better english than I could ever speak spanish!

Amharic is what they speak in Ethiopia, or parts of Ethiopia, but i went there last easter to build houses for the poor.

Hahaha, that's because of the phonems (I don't know if that's the right word) and the muscles in our faces. Spanish people are the ones that have most trouble when speaking other languages, because Spanish is the language with less phonems. ;)

I speak a total of one language (on a good day)

If someone spoke french I could probably follow the conversation, but barely. I know a fair amount of french words, I just can't string them together to form a sentence lol.

English, and I've been learning French since I was about 6... my reading and writing are all right, I can follow a conversation if people don't talk quickly, but me speaking it is a completely different thing :P And I know a select few words in German and Czech... like hello :P

English is my native tounge, and I'm what you'd call 75% fluent in German. I have 95% of all the grammar down, I just need to keep adding vocab words, because the bird can't fly if it ain't got no wings, as the saying goes.

I speak English (my mother tongue)...my Chinese mother attempted to teach me Chinese, but sadly it failed. :P I've also taken French for a couple of years, three or four, I think, so I can speak rudimentary (note, very easy, lol) french. Next year, I'm going to take spanish too- I like languages, but I'm horrible at them and my accent is atrocious.

I'm in my fourth year of Spanish (the year where they make you un-learn all the grammar stuff that you've learned up to that point). I can read and write it quite well, I can follow a conversation if the people aren't speaking too fast, but speaking...I go through all the verb conjugations in my head, so my sentence goes..."Mi amiga---compraré, comprarás... comprará un libro manaña"

(my friend will buy a book tomorrow.)

I speak English :P

I know a bit of Spanish because I took 4 years of it in high school, and if I had continued I would probably be fluent. But I got lazy/frustrated.

I'd like to learn German and Italian someday, but I'm crap at memorization so learning languages isn't exactly easy for me.

I remember that hehe. Dutch is a very difficult language to learn. My sister-in-law has been living here for over 1.5 years now, and she's only just beginning to understand most things, but speaking back is still hard for her, and she still makes loads of mistakes.

[off topic] I'm taking a class on the history of English, and we're going over some other languages to notice patterns, etc. The other languages aren't labeled, but I knew one was Dutch because I recognized a few of the words I saw on the forum  [/off topic]
