So I started watching American Idol this time around. I wanted to see what all the hype was about. Anyways... On one of the Idol sites I was at, I saw someone mention "Singapore Idol." So, I did a search for it and sure enough, Singapore has their own Idol show. Now I am wondering if this Idol business is like a company or something that puts shows in various countries. The logo is exactly the same... so... since we have people here from all over the world, does anyone know of any other countries that have Idol?

EDIT:

I found this list of somewhere...

World Idol; American Idol (http://www.idolonfox.com/home.htm) 1, 2, 3; Australian Idol (http://au.australianidol.yahoo.com/) 1, 2; New Zealand Idol; Serbia Idol; Croatia Idol; Portugal Idol; Montenegro Idol; Finland Idol; France Idol; Iceland Idol; Denmark Idol; Poland Idol; Belgium Idol; Pan Arabic Idol; Germany Idol; Netherlands Idol; Canada Idol; Norway Idol; South Africa Idol; England Idol;

All having the same logo... just the country is different... Is it a conspiracy LOL!

here it's called Idols, not 'Dutch idol' or 'Netherlands idol' - but we know the show is all over the world.

I thought it was common knowledge that hit shows have versions around the world. o.O Its not a conspiracy. The guy who created the show basically gets to sell the show to different tv companies in the world.

there was a new show if i'm right, other name, same stuff..
i don't watch it anyway... its so commercialised, and those "stars" make 1 hit and then disappear

Brtain started off with "Pop Stars", then it changed to "Pop idol", but as chazvik said, there is no england idol.

yeah, I heard about that, but never watched it, I know the concept was similar, only this time there were pop bands created I believe, not so much individual singers.

I really don't like these idol shows, I only really watch the audition episodes to see what stupid things people are going to do to get on tv :P Unfortunately other people in the house like them, so I'm stuck with it on in the background... I generally like the Canadian Idol better than the American one, on the US one they all sound the same and I'm sitting here wondering where the judges thought they were "original", on the Canadian one there's always been at least one person who actually IS more original.

Me too, Kittycat, I like watching the first shows of the season because I enjoy the losers so much - after that I pretty much stop watching.

It's just like Big Brother and stuff...the people who create the shows sell them to other production companys...nearly every country in the world has Big Brother (netherlands originally), its just that it keeps the same name whereas the blank idol ones generally take on the countrys name.

As mentioned though, the UK was the first country to have the show, it was created by Nigel Lithgow i think (very rich man now at a guess lol) and over here its just called 'Pop idol' :)

As for American Idol...i watched it last time, hated like the final 3 people in it and generally disliked the music/shows because they were SO American (no offense meant, but im british, i like things that are SO british...if that makes sense lol) but i have the first 4 episodes of this season ready to watch...im planning on just watching the auditions...but who knows how it will turn out :P

wasn't there a "world Idol" last year? I'm sure there was - all the past winners of the (your country here) Idols all performed on this other show to see who was the best out of all of them.

I can't remember who won though, but I know england didn't do brilliantly - I think America came 2nd.

It was on last year sometime I think.

The best time watching Idol is the first ones and the last ones :P
I <3 the show...not sure why, it's so fake, but I can't sing, so maybe that's my fixation. :P

I didn't know that they had different versions of AI around the world. I was KIDDING when I said it was a conspiracy and the guy that created American Idol was Simon Cowel... According to the E! True Hollywood Story, it was his idea, and all the American TV stations rejected it so he did it in England and once Fox saw how much of a hit it was, they signed the show up.

Actually...we are both wrong, it was neither of them

Nigel Lithgow did PopStars....which is where the Pop Idol format was taken from, Simon Cowell producers it and stuff and makes a mint i'm sure...but the actual creator was Simon Fuller (http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/PersonDetail/personid-69064)

Well in 2004 popstars came back in oz. The winner has gotten no where and he quit singing.

Theres this other show called the x-factor thats starting this year. Not to sure if you have to know how to sing or dance or what.
