I don't like her because first of all she TRIED to do hip hop beats and ended up jackin em up. That is an insult to the African American culture (which is my culture). If you're gonna do a hip hop beat or song at least do it right!

I dislike all these poppy chicks :P They'll all lose popularity evenually :hehe: I like classic artists. ;)

in case you didn't know, all these new "hip hop" stars don't do their own "beats." So, she didn't "jack them up." Someone else did and she just sings to them. If rap/hip-hop has a definition, then what is it? What do you consider "right?"

i don't like her, because she doesn't sing with her own voice but with this 'britney spears kinda like' voice that is so high that my window is about to break if she doesn't stop :P

unfortunately, i do have to disagree with you mirna. I am impressed that she has such an adult like voice. When I first heard her first song, I thought it was an adult singing but then i found out she was only 13! and i was like whoa!

Jojo has a strong voice, I won't deny that, but her songs are too cliché. Singing love songs at 13, 14? Don't think so. Not a fan of hers at all.

she holds back when she sings. I can't really explain in english... i know the words for what i want to say but i'm not able to translate it properly lol

many R&B and hiphop artists do that, they don't sing 100% with their real voice, but with the higher voice. Then you get that squeeky effect (did i wrote that right? lol) but without some volume in the voice

I can't stand her or other people like her. I personally view her in the "pop" category, and I can't listen to that stuff. I don't even like most new artists of ANY genre nowadays. Usually if I buy a new cd, it's from an artist I have history with.

I'm assuming you mean "rap". Rap and hip-hop are different :)

Jojo's not my cup of tea, but I don't think I would say i hate her. Meh.

Whoa, Karen, you really know how to make someone do a double-take! O.o;;

Jojo...I don't really know much about her, but I once saw a commercial for a CD that she was on, and the song was blehh. Seeing as she's pop/hiphop/whatever and most of you don't like her, I don't think I'm going to even bother looking into her music. Nevermind the fact that I don't care for young celebs for some reason...

Monkey Bizzle

i am afraid that since she is so young, she will let all this star stuff get to her and end up ^^^^^^^^ up like other young stars have been doing lately.

I love these polls. I said I loved her and I hated her. Then I realized that loving and hating her was neither of the above, so I selected that too.

I don't like her music, but I don't hate her.

I've heard i think one song of hers, I think she can sing well, I'm not too crazy about the type of music she sings but I'm still getting over the fact she's 13

Meh... I don't like her so much. But, then again I have never really "listened" to her music... it will come on the radio and I will listen to it for a while then I will just be like "meh..." and change it to something better. She is only 13 and she is wearing nasty "brittany spears-like" cloths... I just... don't like it.

my sister lover her music -always playing it in the stereo. i guess has good voice but personally i think she is too young to be thrown into a world of harsh critisms, tough competion and the continual pressures to do better. i can see her becoming a major diva - dont really know why tho, she aint nothing special - the same as you and me!!!

I now realise what my mum means why she says, "young girls are growing up too fast these days." JoJo looks 18, looks as if she is trying to be 18 but has only just turned 14.
When I was 13/14 I was gutted when my mum made me give up my barbies [she gave them to younger cousins - ^^^^!] not worrying about what the world is thinking of me, too much pressure too young.

to me hiphop is more singing in it. Rap is like talking all over again :P imagine Jay-z in the linkin park colleberation (sp?) song "numb/encore". I love that song, but still he talks like crazy in it.

You should of said

I don't like her because first of all she TRIED,in my opinion, to do hip hop beats and ended up by messing them up. That is an insult to my personal view of the african culture of music. I also believe that if you're going to do a beat or song at least do it right according to my standard of music.

Anyways did JoJo ever say herself that she was trying to be "hip-hop" or trying to sound like everyone else? Do you even know that it could be her style of music, not what everyone else is singing like? It's called being unique btw :)

chazvik
12-30-2004, 06:38 PM

But if everyone was unique wouldnt they be the same?

No, they only share the quality of being unique. It doesn't necessarily make them the same in everything

Rap is more about in your face and showing off. Hip Hop is more about the words, which are usually about life or sharing a somewhat common message. Rap actually came from the hip hop culture. Some artists can do a song that's more on the rap side, and then do a song that's more on the hip-hop genre. It's usually a matter of opinion in that particular case (when a artist does both). Eminem is usually described as rap, but I personally think he has made a few songs more on the hip-hop side. De La Soul is a popular hip-hop name.

But my take on the whole thing will vary a bit, mostly because it will highly depend on which generation of the music someone is thinking of. If you're really interested (I doubt it, I'm assuming you were trying to do something else), do a search online for information.

And what's with race being thrown into things? It's either race, religion, or politic standings that make somewhat unrelated issues into bigger ones. Why can't we just discuss the real question of the thread, and only bring in other elements if they're used in a mature manner?

Sisqoluv, I wholeheartedly agree with you on the whole rap is in your face thing.

And race is being thrown in because kamikaze-girl said something about JoJo being insulting because she "borrowed" something from her culture. This is America. We're supposed to be open-minded and "borrow" from other cultures. This is what makes us different.

I know how the race thing got brought up, I was just asking why... As far as the messing up aspects of other cultures situation, while I agree with you Tokyo bleu, there are a lot of incidents when important aspects of a culture are taken, used, and lost meaning. I'm not saying that's what this JoJo kid did (I still see her as those pop-like girls that I can't stand), I'm speaking more about traditions. But that's going off topic.

Sorry Mirna!! i was kidding. I don't really think what you editted out... i was trying to point out how dumb it is to say that other cultures can't do something because they don't belong to the culture it originated from...

And thanks sisqolove for answering my question. however, it still sounds the same to me LOL
