View Full Version : Legit Filesharing
vanillacokemeeh 12-28-2004, 04:06 AM There's this new LEGIT/LEGAL file sharing program called MashboxX, its legal because they check to see if your music is authentic, like actually bought i think. well, does anyone know where I could get the program? thanks.
Monkey Bizzle 12-28-2004, 04:13 AM how can they check if you bought your music? anyways, it doesn't matter if you purchased it or not. you aren't supposed to re-distribute music.
vanillacokemeeh 12-28-2004, 04:14 AM I don't know the exact story, but it's legit, its all over newspaper, but they just haven't revealed the actualy program source.
tokyo bleu 12-28-2004, 04:26 AM "The bottom line is that the user will get the whole file, and get the opportunity to play it and use it and enjoy it, and get the opportunity to pay," he said. He added that because copyright owners can set the wholesale prices for their tracks in the SnoCap system, the per-song price for Mashboxx users will vary, but the majority of songs will probably be priced around $1 each.

I've been to the official MashBoxx Web site, but it seems that they haven't put anything up yet.
Monkey Bizzle 12-28-2004, 04:28 AM they haven't released it because it's not done yet...
"Dubbed Mashboxx, Rosso's new service is set to go online early next year."
vanillacokemeeh 12-28-2004, 04:39 AM Oh =]
salomeyasobko 12-28-2004, 05:38 AM you can use iTunes, i think it's the same thing.. $1 per song i believe?
tokyo bleu 12-28-2004, 07:38 AM iTunes isn't a file-sharing program. It's an online music download store, but you are right about the price.
I would go for iTunes instead of this "Mashboxx" because the per-song price for Mashboxx users will vary.
salomeyasobko 12-28-2004, 08:33 AM ^it's still the same thing because you get songs for a buck each :P
tokyo bleu 12-28-2004, 08:37 AM Only a majority of the songs will be $1. I don't know why they would charge more than $1... that'd totally kill business.
salomeyasobko 12-28-2004, 08:46 AM yes but my point was: use iTunes instead ;)
chazvik 12-28-2004, 11:36 AM Id just but the music from a shop, not online, but thats just me
Chris 12-28-2004, 12:08 PM But buying online is probably cheaper, and it means that you don't need to go to a shop so it is easier and faster :)
Thanks,
Chris :D
chazvik 12-28-2004, 12:22 PM Yeah i know but i don't have a credit card and my parents would say no
im ok though a i got 2 albums for christmas :) (Greenday+TheZutons)
MaGiCSuN 12-28-2004, 06:14 PM and i saved allot of money for the greenday album by getting it online :P
filesharing = illegal to me. Because one person buys it, the other 'get's' it. Otherwise it's no filesharing. Can be me, but i don't see how you can fileshare together with paying for it. That means that i get paid for people that download from me ? weird stuff ...
Love,
Mirna

only for the better trained ears, CD quality is a lot better then mp3 compression
To be honest i don't have problems with filesharing and warez and stuff.. i bought some CD's this year that i think that they earn it. some organisations like Brein in the netherlands thinks that for every mp3 people download, the artists loose money. but they forget that if people wouldn't buy so much cd's as they download mp3's. its just listening if its good enough. these organisations can't even proove that the income for the music business has increases because of mp3's and here in the netherlands there's even prooved that people go more to the cinema then in the past.
vanillacokemeeh 12-28-2004, 06:27 PM haha to chazvik, you don't need a credit card most of the time, i don't have one either so I buy pre-paid cards, all you do is enter the activation code and you buy :] it works. I wish I had a credit card though because if you get an iTunes account, you get a free song every week.. :stickout:
Dude128 12-28-2004, 08:34 PM from what I've heard, artists actually make very little on CD sales (that's why it's the record companies upset, not so much individual artists- that's where most of the money goes). CDs really just serve as advertisements for concerts and tours and such, where the artist probably gets a bigger chunk of the ticket price, and they also get revenue from merchandise sales and things. so if that's the case, they would actually be benefiting from filesharing, because that's more advertising for them than they would get with CD sales and radio play alone.
if record companies made CDs more reasonably priced (and there could be absolutely NO connection between increased album prices and increased filesharing, could there?!), I might buy more. and mp3 quality is good enough considering what you paid for them...

Yep, so true.
I rather buy from a foreign music online download store, like this one Russian download store which sells full albums for 55 cents... better than iTunes to me anyday, though quality matters too, but CD quality will always top it all.
oincubusx 12-29-2004, 05:18 AM i dont think the quality would be as good as itunes if you used itunes but if you buy the cd, thats not as good cause there are usually songs you might not like on a cd and you can just get the other ones? i think that thing is cool but i would use itunes :)
LesPaul59 12-29-2004, 06:03 AM Yep, so true.

Yeah, my friend showed me that..."How much did you buy that last Dream Theater Album for?" "$26..." "I can get it for a dollar sixtyfive..."
I really don't fileshare anymore. I do take pride in the fact that I have over 100 hours of legal CDs  Heck, I just bought 7 last night with job earnings :)
Silence4me2 12-29-2004, 04:40 PM Im gonna be truthful. I download songs but then I buy the cds. I got alot of cds from BMG music club this year it's cheaper to me. Maybe some peeps would call it stealing but I call it testing since I end up buying the cd anyway.
So if you like the artist's music go buy from them.
