Hey You All, I am planning on helping some friends out w/ running some different kinda websites...So I am wondering if I'm able to use the same FTP Explorer to upload images for several domains if I change the password in the FTP form from time to time when I'm gonna upload stuff at the different domains??? And if so; Is each domain able to log in to all the domains I'm helping out with, because I'm logging in on all the FTP accounts with the same FTP Explorer on a regular basis???

I really hope that someone has the time to reply to this, because I need to know because of safety reasons ;) Thanks in advance!!!

I use ftp explorer for 3 site's so yes you can. You do have to disconnect and connect to change hosts :) You do have to have the same information etc that the user use offcourse

also this ftp thing is only for basic things like uploading graphics and many other files. To CHMOD you need to use an ftp program.

so to your last sentence, you can log in if you have the username, ftp adres and password on each computer using ftp explorer

Love,
Mirna

Hey Mirna

Thank you so much for letting me know that you use FTP Explorer for three sites...That was so nice of ya! You're of great help to me ;) Thanks!

If you're hosted by three sites - Do you know if one sites owner can find out the other sites FTP password if you use the same FTP Explorer for all three sites??? Lemme know, will ya! Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for letting me know that I have to disconnect and connect to change hosts...Ahhh...I'm just worried about one sites owner finding out about another ones FTP password...Cause I promised to keep it private...

I totally understand that I have to have the same information and stuff for the website I'm gonna upload things to. I just really hope that one website owner can't find out about another website owners password since I'm using the same FTP Explorer for all sites!!!

Yeah; I'm uploading pics and text w/ FTP...It has worked really great so far!!! (On the one site I've been working on)

What do you mean by saying that you can HMOD??? I've never heard about that before...Can you tell me a lil bit about that???

And what is an FTP-program??? I'm really curious about stuff like this :) I hope you don't mind me asking!!!

I have the usernames, FTP adresses and passwords to each website, but I don't really know if I can use it since one website owner is not supposed to know about the two other websites passwords and vice versa...Is that a problem?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post!!! I hope that someone have the time to reply to my questions! *hugs*

the other sites can't find out each others passwords. what usually happens is that someone with a network sniffer can find out your username and password.

the only way around that is to encrypt everything you transfer but you can't do that unless your host can decrypt it. so if security is a concern you can change your password often.

Hey amicus

Thank you so much for letting me know that the sites can't find out about each others passwords through FTP Explorer!!! It was really nice of you to reply!

OMG! So someone with a network sniffer can actually find out your FTP Explorer username and password. That's really scary :( I didn't know that it was actually that easy to find out about someones username and password. Does this happen often?

Oh, and how do ya know how my host can encrypt/decrypt everything I transfer??? And what does it mean to encrypt/decrypt?

Security is definitely a concern, so I will definitely make sure to change my password often ;)

Has anyone on here ever experienced that their domain/website has been hacked???

Ok, I'll talk to you guys later! Thanks for replying!!!

:D

i'm not sure if sniffing username and passwords happen to often besides there's alot bigger fish to fry. usually if someone is sniffing the internet they'll want credit card, personal information, stuff like that.

i've had a few hackers try to hack into my ftp server but couldn't get in. even if they did get in and delete my entire site i have backups and there's no personal information on it anyways. even my firewall gets hit but i'm sure alot of it are just stray packets making it look like a hacker.

encryption is when you scramble the data before transmission. then you have to use something that can decrypt the scrambled data. it's the same way cable tv works so nobody can steal cable tv. the cable company scrambles the tv transmission then your cable box decrypts it. chances are your host doesn't encrypt the information. i'm assuming that 'cos your using internet explorer as your ftp application. i don't think ie encrypt/decrypt data, most host don't do that. i personally don't do it with my ftp server.

i don't think people with small sites has to worry to much about it. 'cos the hacker would have to sit for a whole long time before someone logs in. their are more efficient ways of hacking and better targets.

Hey amicus

Thank you so much for replying :D You rock!

It totally suc*s that people try to sniff for your username and password!!! Blah...And it's really scary to think about that they'll want your credit card #, personal information 'n' stuff like that. Ahhh...

It totally suc*s that a few hackers have tried to hack into your FTP server!!! Good thing they couldn't get in though. It's great that you have backups and that there's no personal information on it anyways!!! It's really too bad that your firewall gets hit too! Blah...

Thank you so much for letting me know what encryption is too! That is of great help to me.

Thanks for telling me more about this!!! You are the best :) *hugz*
