I have a site that provides free layouts, and I want to make a download link so people can download the layouts. But they would be downloading a .html file and that would just open a new page.
How do I get it so that people can download .html files? Do I have to make them download .txt instead?

You can instruct them to right click >> save link as

Or zip up the file (using a program like winzip - http://www.winzip.com) and link to the zip file.

You could make .ZIP files instead.

yea you should use zip files since alot of other layout sites does because it saves some space

Yeah, I was thinking of that, but I don't have winzip and I don't like downloading because you never know...

if your on xp you can just right click and click new compressed zip folder

winzip is clean anyhow... its not some program that some kid made in his basement...

I do have xp... do I just paste my documents in the folder then?

or you could try just putting the source for your layouts online for people to copy (if they are html only) e.g. you could use the textarea tag around a big chunk of code so people could copy it to their own sites.

yeah umm the first part of my message didnt show up for some reason. You said earlier that downloading could be dangerous. So i suggested you get AVG if you are afraid of catching a cough. I wonder why the first part of ym message didnt show up?

I just hate downloads in general, I'm not very trusting of the internet... I don't know why though...
