i'm not sure about maintaining it, but .nu domains are a bit pricer than regular ones.

.tk - a small place called Tokelau near NZ and the great AUS

their free but do require a pop-up banner size add.

If you register your .nu at nunames (http://www.nunames.nu), it'll cost you $10 every time you want to change something (ie. DNS).

DON'T get a domain at www.dot.tk ... the pop-up adds are ANOYING! I've never seen more anoying pop-ups. Even geocities is nothing to that...
Is there a special thing about your site that you want to use .nu ? I would always say take .com because it is the easiest to remember and that stays other people in mind. .org is just cool, and .co.uk is superb when you are a totally british-addict (as I am)...

Anything other than .com, .net, or .org costs more. You should stick to one of those three... I've also seen things such as .tv, but the prices rise as they get more and more away from those three. If you don't want the everyday .com, try .net or .org. Personally, I like .net :D

that's called a redirection url :) like cjb.net. There's an option to set the banners on dot.tk off (or ad whatever you call it) in your control pannel.. it's legal because they provide it of their own. But still it's no real domain...

i don't think there's difference between a .com .nu etc to maintain. I think that has more to do at whatever host you buy your domain and space.

.us and .biz are $4.95/year from www.godaddy.com ATM

by the way, I HIGHLY recommend buying your domain and hosting from separate companies.

Why is this? I'm just asking because when I spent over a year looking for a host, I was determined to find one that offers both, lol.

Because you dont really have full control over the domain name if you allow someone else to register it...i bought a name and hosting with the same company once, about 8 days later it dissapeared off the face of the internet, i tried for months to get control of it at enom but because it was registered with my hosting companys info rather than my own i couldnt :(
Theres a lot of other reasons too but basically its just better to register the name yourself so its 100% yours and if things do go wrong at least its still yours if you know what i mean.

Oh, I see... Well, before I bought anything, I asked my host if I would completey own the domain and be able to take it if I switched hosts and they said yes. As a matter of fact, I learned to find that out from reading this forum :D
