View Full Version : who on this forum self taught themselves?
maztrin 11-22-2004, 11:08 AM who on this forum taught themselves how to use programs or do coding?
for example you got a program and taught yourself how to use it?
-without books or the internet. only the help feature that came with the program or just guessing?
i taught myself dreamweaver mx 2004, fireworks mx, flash mx,
but i got this really good book to help me learn html
im so proud of myself :)
lol
o, learning the REALLY hard way...
excel.
that was a nasty thing to try to work.
had to figure out a bunch of different features and stuff for work purposes, then of course the head guys decided they wanted it done differently and i go back to square one!
the program seems to like me a bit more nowadays... :buckt:
starlet 11-22-2004, 04:33 PM I don't think i've ever used a tutorial to learn how to use a program!
Never read a PSP tutorial in my life...but then...i suck terribly at PSP, but still :P
I use tutorials to learn code generally :D
Munchkin 11-22-2004, 06:51 PM I taught myself HTML by..basically...HTML help sites and looking at other people's codes. This site definetely helped me alot, though I'm very ashamed of my first site now (it was horrible! But hey, I was only eight)
Makar 11-22-2004, 08:05 PM I taught myself HTML by..basically...HTML help sites and looking at other people's codes. This site definetely helped me alot...
Same here. I learned most of the HTML knowledge I have today by looking at other people's source codes, though I find myself coming back here everytime I forget something, especially CSS-related.
As far as programmes go, I can learn how to use something just by fooling around with it a bit. The only programme I haven't been able to figure out on my own is FlashMX, and well...I'm gonna have to read through a few tutorials on that one of these days...
kittycat 11-22-2004, 08:58 PM I'm too lazy to look for tutorials online so I always just kind of guess at what to do/use the help file/ask a friend :P I have no reason to really know how to use any specific program so it works for me!
Cherchezlafemme 11-22-2004, 10:09 PM i self taught myself everything lol
Nikkular 11-22-2004, 11:18 PM I taught myself just about everything... Me and my friend together tried out html a long time ago and got the basics down good, then about a month ago i pretty much just started to work on it. I'm still not all that good but each layout i make gets a bit better each time. For photoshop i just messed around for a while until i learned the tools before i even looked at tutorials. And flash mx, i tried to teach myself but it just got too confusing, then in one of my classes we started it and got the hang of it immediately (good teacher i guess). That's about it. Boring huh? lol
iGeek 11-23-2004, 12:37 AM I self taught myself HTML :) Well, ok, i had ONE book, but...
salomeyasobko 11-23-2004, 01:18 AM psp, i kind of figured out how javascript works on my own [i'm still not too good with it].. and php. i looked for php tutorials and asked some people for some but i was too lazy to look at them and i just got confused, so i just studied some coding and kinda figured out how it worked.
sitehelper 11-23-2004, 01:34 AM I've learned everything I know. I did try a couple of classes in college but I hated them because I liked the freedom of learning what I want, in the order I want, when I want.
aerith86 11-23-2004, 08:38 PM I read through a HTML tutorial once, and the rest came from just experimenting with tags and such. If I get stuck I'll come to Lissaexplains.com or try and look it up, but I don't copy the code, I try and figure it out for myself. Very frustrating, but the most rewarding thing in the world!
I taught myself PSP. Hopelessly lost with Adobe photoshop.
maztrin 11-24-2004, 09:34 AM not a fan of adobe photoshop gave up after a few hours of that.
i really really tried to learn php but i just dont get. i knwo its simple...but i just dont get it!
GreenEyedGirl 11-24-2004, 11:39 AM I self taught myself HTML and PSP. I used random HTML help sites to get the basics but then I experimented after that. I looked at other peoples codes to figure out how do to certain things, too. I just randomly started trying new things in PSP and only just recently started using tutorials for that, for the more difficult things.
Owlie42 11-25-2004, 04:53 AM Same here. I learned most of the HTML knowledge I have today by looking at other people's source codes, though I find myself coming back here everytime I forget something, especially CSS-related.
I've taught myself the basics of coding, but if I need some help, I come here. Programs: I fiddle with things.
weird girl 11-25-2004, 04:59 AM I taught myself how to use the GIMP. I can usually learn how to use a program by fiddling with it.
I taught myself some CSS, but I learned the basics from here.
Valkyrie 11-25-2004, 05:08 AM The very basics of HTML (like how to change fonts and background color) were taught to me by a friend. The rest of I've learned on my own, using this site, as well as studying other's codes. I also learned Photoshop and PSP on my own, by just experimenting with the tools and stuff. Right now, I'm trying to teach myself PHP, but I find it difficult. I understand the concept, but when I try to do something, it just wont work. XD
Hmm, but I wont give up, I'll keep trying. :buckt:
scorpio_chick 11-25-2004, 07:07 AM i learned html on html tutorials on other websites. i was intersted on html when i saw this lovely site by a teenager, then i decided to start my own homepage/site. i started teaching myself html last two months. i never seeked helped from my friends or any program. i just used the internet.
jessi15 11-25-2004, 10:50 AM I've taught myself the basics of coding, but if I need some help, I come here. Programs: I fiddle with things.
Yup, same here!
sputter 11-29-2004, 08:42 PM ALmost everything I've learned that is is computer related has been through trials and tribulations. I haven't really done any hardcore class taing for anything I've learned. I have taken the classes, but I've already known the material. I figure an easy A and hopefully a peice of paper won't hurt.
