Ok, I have created this layout, and I need a review. One of the mods already ok'ed it (in aother post).

i said to upload to an host that stores the images for you :)

Tell me if you like the colors, layout, size (its meant for 1024x768), and if anything should be taken out or added.

Thank you guys.

I think it's nice, but the style isn't exactly original. And you should make it a point to design layouts that are size-friendly too, but that's just my two cents.

It looks good! I use 1024x768 and it fits perfectly on my screen (across, not down). I feel sorry for anyone with a smaller resolution tho.

Well, here is how I see it. Most people now a-day have a computer that can support 1024x768. I put up a splash page with a note saying meant for 1024x768, then link it to a page showing how to adjust their res.

It is supposed to be longer (I have lots of content).

How do you think it isn't original.

Maybe it's just my pathetic obsession with Good-Tutorials.com, but after looking at many Photoshop tutorials by equally talented designers, the style gets old. It's not that I don't like the style, because I admire it, but I've seen it done before way too many times.

I assume you want an honest critique?

Well the orange and white are great, but the grey areas are too flat. The "screws" in the corners of each area suggest an interface so maybe you could make the grey areas a little more metallic looking.

The header is great over all but just needs something else to make it pop. The way it is it's kind of generic looking, but without know what the site is about it's kind of hard to put my finger on what.

This may be the way you see it but the numbers still show that more people still use 800x600, tho, 1024x768 is gaining. I know my logs show this to be true. And most, if not all, people will be unwilling to change their res just for you. Do you change yours everytime you see this? Why not make a liquid layout to make everyone happy, or until you figure out how to make one stick to 800x600.

If you want your site to be popular with the search engines, splash pages are not the way to go and besides, they are annoying. I will not go any further into the site if they do not offer any useful information other than to tell me to change my res. I am on dial-up and there is nothing more annoying than to wait for this page to load then be told to go somewhere else.

It is supposed to be longer (I have lots of content).
The other poster is right, the vertical scrolling shouldn't happen with this type of layout. If you want to accomodate more content this is not the way to do it. Of course, you might have to change the design slightly. Take a look at how these guys do their coding on some of their layouts to give you an idea (and I am not saying this is the definitive answer, just happens to be an example)

Sorry if this is not what you wanted to here but at least I was honest.

Wow! Good review LOL!

to Jared, you could make a layout that fits on the screen and use scrolling divs or something, instead of just making the screen continue on... sometimes that works tho, but i don't think it would for your type of layout. my site is just a blog so it fits for my page to just increase in length everytime i make a new entry.

Aw, my resolution is 1280 x 1024. It still looks good though, just not fit to width. I like the top design, but I agree with tokyo on the fact that it could be more origional. It looks good, though :)

Thank you, I really liked your reviews. I will think about the suggestions. Could you point me to any tutorials on how to make a layout that will expand with a users resolutin? I have always wanted to beable to do that, but never found how.

HERE (http://www.bigbaer.com/css_tutorials/css_font_size.htm) is one place to start. Or Google for "liquid layout tutorials" (including quotes). These will get you started learning the code then you can lay it out in Photoshop.

FWI another good forum you can go to for help with coding is no links to other forums, please read the rules ~ mod

I edited your url because i approved it to upload it to for example photobucket and link it from there. Not from your own site, simply because advertising isn't allowed and like that people can see your actual url.

So if you want more reviews on this please upload to a host that doesn't belong to you and then post the link here

Love,
Mirna
