View Full Version : Parasites Superstar 11-04-2004, 11:41 PM Does anyone know of a FREE program that can remove parasites from my computer? they're getting really annoying and i have Virtual Bouncer but its not free and it requires a credit card # for activation. thezeppzone 11-05-2004, 12:11 AM usually you could use spybot or something, but virtual bouncer is like...from what i hear, you wont win against it. my parents computer got it and my sister finally ended up reformatting their hard drive after she tried like everything she knew of.... Monkey Bizzle 11-05-2004, 03:15 AM Zepp, from what I gather, virtual bouncer is a program, not a virus... i mean, i hope you don't need a credit card to activate a virus LOL! Superstar, search on google for "Spy Bot Search and Destroy" and "Ad-Aware." Those are 2 really good free programs. Superstar 11-06-2004, 01:30 AM can you remove a parasite w/ spybot or a program that removes viruses? i heard a parasite is worse than a virus :( Rosey 11-06-2004, 01:32 AM it depends what virus you are talking about and what parasite... Superstar 11-06-2004, 02:08 AM well, from what i know, this parasite (not complete sure what that is) makes popup ads popup EVERYTIME i visit a new website or click on link. its also frozen my screen a few times and have slowed things down a little. this is the 1st time i've had a parasite n im not completely sure what to do or what programs to use. Munchkin 11-06-2004, 02:11 AM You could try Norton AntiVirus, but I think you have to buy it. What I would do, is go to Google and search for "free virus-protector" or something like that. Rosey 11-06-2004, 02:29 AM it's just spyware...spyware can do a number of things more annoying that anything. Like someone else said, get spybot and ad-aware. They work well together and compliment each other well and they are free. thezeppzone 11-06-2004, 02:43 AM VB is spyware that you need a credit card to activate it to get rid of it, there is no other way i have heard of to get rid of it besides reformatting your computer. i just dont get it....but some people are like that. my parents had the same problem with the popups and such... Superstar 11-06-2004, 02:48 AM VB is a spyware? :( i thought it was just a program to get rid of parasites n virisus n that sorta thing, or atleast thats what it said.... Rosey 11-06-2004, 05:38 AM spybot will remove that, it's on their list. Empty all your temp files. Then start your computer in safe mode, run spybot, and then adaware and then restart your computer in the normal mode. if all else fails, you can get hijack this and run it and then go post your log on a forum and have them look at it. Read this post, it will help you out: http://www.security-forums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18252 Superstar 11-08-2004, 11:14 PM ive done that. i dunno whats up w/ Ad-Aware in my pc but during its search it gives me this warning then it closes . do you think, maybe, i should reformat my computer (or restore it if it means the same thing?), would that get rid of this parasite and make my computer work the way it used to? Rosey 11-09-2004, 12:57 AM i would run spybot (in safe mode), get hijack this, scan, post the log on the other forum before reformating. lalalalala575 11-10-2004, 07:48 AM Just reformat and reinstall your OS, it will get rid of lots of other ^^^^ she probably has. onlychosen 11-10-2004, 03:59 PM you can try and redo ur comp. (getting rid of everything on it) or download something free, or buy somethin chazvik 11-10-2004, 05:32 PM anti-virus is good so is ad-aware and spybot zone alarm is good too Rosey 11-10-2004, 09:49 PM Just reformat and reinstall your OS, it will get rid of lots of other ^^^^ she probably has. Sometimes though, you have too much stuff on the computer you DON'T want to get rid of, graphics, photos, brushes, tubes......Sometimes it's worth it to try to save the computer instead of wipping it out. Superstar 11-11-2004, 02:17 PM i have alot of other problems on my computer too besides the parasites tho, so i was thinking if i do restore my computer i could save all my important stuff to a disk and when my puter's all cleaned out i could install them again. when you reformat/restore the computer do you have to reinstall the OS (the whole program pack, i have Win XP) again? jus wondering coz i dont have the disk, it came installed when i 1st bought it. Rosey 11-11-2004, 10:38 PM no it will restore your computer to how it was when you bought it. It's good to have a OS disk in case something happens though. Superstar 11-11-2004, 10:57 PM so in other words it will perminently delete everything i installed after i bought it? it wont delete Win XP from it, will it? Rosey 11-11-2004, 11:33 PM not if windows XP came with your computer it won't. But it will delete everything you have downloaded, installed, saved on your computer since you bought it. What was on your computer when you bought it is what you are going to get after running the restore disk. Superstar 11-12-2004, 02:01 AM how do i restore my computer? last time my brother was on my comp he told me he accidently presed F10 on startup and the whole computer was restoring itself, but when i did it nothing happened? :( Rosey 11-13-2004, 03:13 AM usually, you put the cd in and restart your computer and it starts automatically. I think your brother lied to you ;) if that doesn't work, what computer do you have(brand), what os (xp right?) Superstar 11-13-2004, 03:10 PM what disk do i use? i have HP and my os is WinXP. Rosey 11-13-2004, 04:52 PM they should have give you some kind of restore disk. Superstar 11-13-2004, 05:04 PM i didn't get one :(. my brother said the day he pressed F10 he was messing with the keyboard pressing all these buttons and the screen turned black w/ white words and it said to press F10 to restore or something so he did. i can only get the screen to turn black when i press F8 repeatedly thats when i get the screen to say to 'click here for safe mode' Rosey 11-13-2004, 05:12 PM what is your exact model, you can probably have them send you one. Superstar 11-13-2004, 05:21 PM will i have to pay for the disk? on my computer is says 'hp pavillion a530e' n on my screen is says 'hp pavillion f1703', if thats the model..
