This is advice I got from a mag.

Well, first of all try finding sites that submit your site to many search engines for free. Don't pay for it, there is almost no difference between the free ones and to paid ones. I suggest you sign up for a free hotmail account and name it something like

myspam_98@hotmail.com or whatever...

You will want to get a spam email account as for all those search engines you submit your site to wil yes WILL send you tons of spam. trust me on this one!

Second of all, forget about the meta tags those are useless, seriously trust me they are! that's a longtime ago.

This is how search engines work. The more popular your site is, and the more links their are from other sites to your site, the more chance you have of appearing at the top of that list. So that is why link exchanges are very useful. The more links their are from sites (your friends sites...) the more you will appear at the top. So in other words, try to exchange links a lot, and you'll find out that your name will appear in google. But, it takes a long time. It takes at least 2-3 months to appear in google, if at all. And for it to even appear in google, people must search for the exact same words as your key words. So far my old site has only been listed in google for once. It was a site for a game I play, the site name was "clan HcP". for people to actually find it in google they must search for clan HcP. But I guess I was lucky because there are not many companies/sites with hcp or clan.

If you know search for clan HcP, you'll see that my site is there. But it returns a dead link.

The best is to definatly, do link exchanges. That's how it worked for me. I added my clan link to many sites and did loads of exchanges, and then it works.
