Are you viewing them offline or uploaded to the server?
You can't view shtml files offline, they need to be uploaded to work.
Online, it depends on the server -- if your page is hosted on AOL they probably don't supprt SSI, and you'll need to use a different host or abandon SSI.

If you uploaed the page and tried to view it under AOL, then it should work because I've viewed them plenty of times. Now, if you're trying to open it as an everyday file with AOL, then it won't work. Like Kitty said, it has to be uploaded.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That is my problem! I hadn't uploaded them yet! Thanks so much! But how do I see if it works? I just have to upload them and if they don't then I fix it?

Just upload them, open the location of the upload, and see what happens :D

No idea on the service quality but they don't support SSI... not a lot of free sites do.

I believe tripod supports SSI if you're willing to put up with their ads
try searching http://www.free-webhosts.com/ for a host that provides SSI Support :)
