Just curious... How many of y'all have a dishwasher and how many still do them by hand?

We have a dishwasher, but we still do a lot of the dishes by hand.

dishwashers are pointless... you still have to rinse the dish to get all the stuck on food off... so why not go all the way and just wash the darn thing!

yes, I have a dishwasher.

I have one at home. It doesn't really get anything clean though.

I used to be a dishwasher at a restaurant (like, a whole week ago) and they had an industrial one.. It took 90 seconds for a load of dishes, and they almost always came out clean. But we had to spray them off well. I put lots of other stuff in there too. Things I've cleaned in there are: shoes, a foot stool, hats, aprons, mop heads, t-shirts, and my wallet (that was an accident though) and other things, I can't think of them :P

dishwashers are supose to make the whole process of doing dishes easier but in fact - they just dont. i think sometimes it would just be quicker to just wash them yourself (or less you work in restraunt-then you get let off, lol)

i always thought that a dishwasher was a sign of laziness but i guess it was bought in the thought that it would mean less time in the kitchen and more time in front of the tv. well...laziness,lol

my dishwasher makes a noise a bit like a steamtrain and often enough stream is found coming out of it :buckt:

It takes me about half an hour to wash all our dishes after dinner by hand. It takes me a minute to rinse off the big chunks of food and put them in the dishwasher.

what do you expect then? that you shove all the dish with brocks of food on it in the dishwasher? [/end reply]

we just clean the plates with a fork to shove the food off into the disposer, and then shove the plates into the dishwasher. So yes we do have one :P and i love it i couldn't live without it, because now i never have to do the dish haha

subluver - your dishwasher must actually fulfill its job as ours doesnt clean the dishes very well and we have to wash them by hand again after the cycle. its a boring process

We have a dishwasher, but I still put off emptying it after it cleans the dishes. Lazy me... I would hate to see what the kitchen would look like if we didn't have one!

If we feel lazy, we use the dishwasher. Most of the time, we do them by hand.

we don't have one...i don't think we need one since i feel more safe when i do the dishes. Dishwashers won't completely clean the dishes anyway.

I have a dishwasher that we always use (though I hate unloading it) but we wash our larger pots and pans by hand.

We very rarely do dishes by hand...I have grown up having it as my job to load and unload the dishes. Once when the dishwasher was broken, we had to wash everything ourselves for like a week and I was like, "Mom I've never washed dishes before!" We hated it. I have to take some take scraping the dishes with a brush before I put them in, but it gets them very hot and cleeean. :) Oh yeah, we do wash the kettles by hand. Well, I should say me or my mom.

you could have just avoided using anything that can't be thrown away :P the 2 all-you-can-eat dining halls on campus use real plates and stuff, and when one of their dishwashers broke, they just used paper plates and platic utensils. seriously. lol
