Lissa, I hope this is ok, unfortunately, with the following tutorial its vital for the users to see the images, else so many would get stuck, plus a file needs to be saved to begin with. Therefore, I have setup a new account at PhotoBucket, that way I'm not linking to anything other than images, my images. So I'll pop the links in where required, I sincerely hope this is ok, it took me a long time to write this tutorial and so many people learn a lot from it, it opens up a new world in PSP, Sarah xx
Make sure you maximise the windows when clicking on the links to ensure you see the image at its best.
This is what we are making...
Floatie Text (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/Sarah_Dot_Floatie_Animation.gif)
What you will need
Jasc PSP8
Animation Shop 3
The font I used is called 'Casual' and can be downloaded here (url is http://www.1001freefonts.com/fonts/cfonts2.htm)
The floatie ~ Right click and save the floatie to your computer ~'Sarah's Dots' (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/SarahsDots.gif)
Download the font and extract it to your PSP font folder.
Here goes!
1. Load your animation shop and open up the 'Sarah's Dots' floatie. Press CTRL and A to select all of the frames, then CTRL and C to copy the frames.
This (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahone.jpg) is what it should look like.
2. Load psp. Click on Edit and you need to paste as 'AS Animation Multiple Frames'. The four frames will now appear in psp, minimise them for now.
3. Create a new image File > New. Use the following settings;
View Settings (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahtwo.jpg)
4. Now you need to click on your text tool and use the following selections.
View Settings (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahthree.jpg)
5. And the materials palette should be set like this,
View Settings (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahfour.jpg)
6. Click on your canvas, and insert the text you want to use, mine is a five letter word, if you use more or less letters then you made need to adjust the text size to suit best.
7. Once your text is on your canvas, click on Objects > Align > Centre In Canvas.
8. Your image should now look like this, apart from the word.
View Image (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahfive.jpg)
9. Ok, now you need to click on your magic wand, holding down the shift key, click inside your text, you should have marching ants on the inside of each letter. Here is an example of how the selected text should look.
View Example (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahsix.jpg)
10. Next, click on Selections > Modify > Expand and expand it by 1.
Take a breather.....We're going on to layers!
11. Click on your layer palette, and select the bottom Raster Layer.
View Layer Palette (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahseven.jpg)
12. Go back onto your material palette, you now need to select a colour to fill the inside of the text with, I'm using Black.
View Materials Palette (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/saraheight.jpg)
13. Click on your Fill tool. Make sure the Match Mode is set to None.
14. Click inside your text and fill with the black.
View Fill (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahnine.jpg)
15. Leave your text selected, as we are going to add an Inner Bevel to the text. Click on Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel. Use the settings as shown.
View Inner Bevel Settings (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahten.jpg)
16. Leave your text selected still as we are going to add some layers. Go to your layer palette again, you need to Duplicate your Raster Layer 3 times.
The reason for this is because we have our first layer, but we have 4 frames from the animation, therefore we need another 3 fill layers. Whichever floatie you use, you always need to have enough fill layers for your floaties frames.
Once you have duplicated 3 times, you need to hide all of your layers apart from the very bottom Raster Layer. You do this by clicking on the eye. Once you have done that, click on your Raster Layer.
View Layer Palette (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/saraheleven.jpg)
17. Go back to your materials palette, open the palette up and click on the Patterns tab. Select the First frame of the floatie with the scale set to 100. Click on your Fill tool, Match Mode should still be set to None and fill inside your text. It should look like this.
View Material Palette > Patterns Tab (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahtwelve.jpg)
View Filled Text (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahthirteen.jpg)
18. Go back to your layer palette again, hide the Raster Layer by clicking on the eye and make the second layer visible. Then click on the layer so it's highlighted.
View Layer Palette (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahfourteen.jpg)
19. Now, back to materials palette > Patterns tab, select the Second frame of your floatie, fill inside your text.
20. Back to your layers palette again hide the Second Layer, make the Third Layer visible and click on it highlight it.
(Now do you see why I told you to take a break before we started this part ;-p)
Repeat the Pattern/Fill/Hide/Visible/Highlight steps until you have done the same with the four layers.
21. Back to the layers palette, you now need to Duplicate your Vector Layer 3 times, hide all of the layers by clicking on the eye.
22. Now, we are near the end! We need to merge the layers, so make your BOTTOM RASTER layer and your BOTTOM VECTOR layer visible. Click on your Raster layer to highlight it.
Make sure, when your about to merge the layers that you have the raster layer selected rather than the vector layer.
View Layer Palette (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahfifteen.jpg)
23. Click on Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. The image below will show you what your layer palette should look like now, see how you have put a vector and a raster layer together....
View Layer Palette (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahsixteen.jpg)
24. Next you need to Hide the Merged layer.
Make your Copy of Raster 1 and Copy of Vector 1 Visible.
Remember to highlight your Raster and not the Vector.
Click on Layers > Merge > Merge Visible
25. Do this, until you have 4 Merged Layers.
26. Now click on Selections > Select None.
All of your merged layers should be hidden apart from the top one, the last one you did.
27. We are going to add a drop shadow, click on Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow and use the settings as shown below.
Drop Shadow Settings (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/sarahseventeen.jpg)
28. Layers Palette, hide your top layer, make the second one visible, click on it to highlight it, repeat step 27. Then hide that layer, and so forth until all 4 layers have a drop shadow.
29. Now go on to your layer palette, RIGHT click anywhere and select View > All.
30. File > Save.
Just one thing I would like to point out for the PSP8 users, when you go to save, click on options in the save box and make sure the 'Save as PSP7 Compatible File' is selected, if you don't then for some reason you can't open your files in Animation Shop.
31. Open your saved file in Animation Shop. You should have 4 frames in one canvas....
View Frames (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/tutimages4keia/saraheighteen.jpg)
32. Press CTRL and A to select all of the frames.
33. Press ALT and Enter to bring up the frame properties box, set the speed to 15.
If your using a different floatie, by pressing the ALT and Enter on the floatie, you'll find out what the speed is, it's generally a good idea to use the same speed in your name.
34. You can crop your images if you need to, press CTRL and A if the frames aren't still selected, click on your crop tool, in the first frame, draw a box around the name, then press Crop.
35. Click on View > Animation
VOILA!!
Now, with the animation still open, click File > Save.
I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, if you need any help then let me know.
