Hello people,
I was searching on the web because i found out that my temporary internet files folder took up 445 MB of my harddisk!! So i searched around to see if there was any solution to it to clean that up.
there are files in your Temporary Internet Files folder that you can't see, and that have no function but do take up allot of space. This is how you can delete them (i described for Windows 98 below, but i'm sure you can also do this in other versions):
1. restart your computer (start > close etc) but choose the option "restart in MS-DOS"
2. if you see the C:\ prompt then type cd\windows and hit enter
3. now you see C:\windows and you type deltree tempor~1 and hit enter
when asking if you want to confirm press "Y"
now it should be deleting your files. I don't know what happens at your computer but with mine i waited and waited and nothing happened so i restarted it myself (just hit alt + ctrl + delete) and it seemed that the files got deleted
after starting up again it could be that the restart takes a bit longer then usual because windows has to make a new Temporary Internet Files folder. Don't worry, this will be clean now. Just repeat this after a while and it cleans up a whole bunch of MB's for you :)
My harddisk is 1,8 GB (not much i know) and it cleaned up 25% of it with that thing that i explained above.
NOTE: to check how many MB's or KB's your Temporary Internet Files folder takes up (not the TEMP folder but the Temporary internet files folder) go to C:\windows\ under "this computer" and then right click on the folder and choose "properties" it should give you the amount of files etc that is inside that folder.
Good luck! and you can still do a "disk cleanup" under "system" in the accoires menu under "start".
Love,
Mirna
