I'm jsut wondering...does a website have to have good graphics to be good?

It depends on the overall layout and content. IF the layout looks really good without any images, and the content is good, then you do not need images to make the website amazing.

I always think that websites with graphics which have been made by the creator are good, because it adds a certain oomph to the website,

A site can have the best graphics I've ever seen and I'll only visit it once. Unless there's something, as in content, that makes me stick around, I won't.

I think it's the content that matters the most. Good graphics/good layouts can make the content appear all that much better.

I think the graphic layout of a website gives you the first impression of the site if it is boring and uncreative you would think the same of the content. I guess for some websites you expect a creative, colorful layout and in others you expect a low key layout. Overall I think it does help your site to have a good graphic layout just because of people's first impressions.

i think that a website should first be able to stand on it's own without graphics... content first, style second.

however a website with bad graphics (and we've all seen a few of them) will turn the user away regardless of how good your content is. i think the two can balance each other out if used in the right proportions.

I think it would depend on the content and theme of the site.

For example, I love going to the pet humor site, because it is a great site and makes me laugh so much. It only has 2 graphics: the background and a picture of a cat licking it's nose.

Now, for my art site, I'd want to make my graphics as good as posible, since the graphics on my site is what will make people want to visit my site, and come back as well.

But for the most part, I'd say that a good site usually has pretty decent graphics on it.

Hope this helps. Have a nice day! :)

if ur syte duzn't have good graphix, that duzn't mean itz not a good lookin syte! Sure sumtymz graphix can make ur syte look wai awesum, but they can also LAG ur syte which meanz that it can cauz errorz, slow it down, or completeli ruin it... u could have trubble scrollin, trubble loadin it up, etc. but if u thynk graphix can do ur syte good, i'll b gladli to give u a link to one uv my fav. sytez for xanga skinz, scriptz[extraz such az graphix], etc.

I think 'creativity' and ' originality' is more important then the quality of the graphic skills. Someone can make such a great layout, but if someone else puts it on their website (say like free templates) and has a big link to it saying "this template is from bla bla bla" then i'm most likely to not visit it again .. becuase you will find everything on that site that all those other 100924929 site's have on the web. (my abc, my name, bla bla bla)

content is a huge deal too, but for some reason i'm not really staying that long on a website without a blog or update section. without that i get bored haha :P it's taste, and you can't please everyone :)

In my opinion, not necassarily. i think that when you go to a site, you'd like to know that they have good content as well but also a layout is an expression of you or the one who made it and when you see it and you are at a domain, it kinda gives you a feeling. Do you know what I mean? It's almost like whne youre at a place in real life and it gives a feeling. So I think that if you were going ot make a site, make sure it Feels right ot you and that theres a connection. And when it comes to content, just use your best stuff honeslty, with the best effort.
